Mac not syncing with iPhone app

I am having the exact same issue as bennehe - I nearly piggy backed his discussion but set up a new one instead.

My last sync was on the 4th April. I have tried the exact same steps and, similarly, I have an empty folder in Dropbox, and the iPhone app cannot find a file to sync with - I just get a continuous rotating icon next to the message 'Select File to Sync'.

I am using Moneydance version 2017.8 (1691).
I am using macOS Monterey v12.3.1 (most recent update was yesterday)
I am on iPhone software 15.4.1 (iPhone 12)
I hadn't sync'd since the 4/4/22 according to my dropbox files - I noticed when I turned my Mac on yesterday to update my finances.
The file is not stored in the default location but has worked okay since I purchased this Mac.
I had data on my iPhone up to and including the 24/4, but I manually re-entered all of those onto the Mac before trying to reset sync.

Kind Regards
Andy

Hmm... There have been discussions about Dropbox moving the file location.... Can you check in

    ~/Dropbox and
    ~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox

    Hi - thanks for reply.

My MD file remains in my iCloud Drive/Documents/Moneydance - I'm fairly sure that's where I put it when I first moved over to this Mac - I don't think it's been moved. And it has continued to work throughout.

It certainly isn't in the default location.

Apologies if I'm being a total idiot, but I can't find any Dropbox file locations - I don't have dropbox as an app - I just use the browser based option.

OK, so you are using Dropbox Connection, not Folders? Can you install dropbox and switch to Folders?

Yep - I'm using Dropbox Connection.

Do you mean shared folders - the option beneath Dropbox Connection in the sync settings?

    Hi Stuart

Sorry to keep spamming the messages - I went with the Shared Folder option and it's working again.

Many thanks for your help - very much appreciated.

    Cheers

All, FYI - if you are using 2017 with Dropbox Connection and if you are seeing :

Error writing current state: com.dropbox.core.NetworkIOException: Received fatal alert: protocol_version
    com.dropbox.core.NetworkIOException: Received fatal alert: protocol_version
        at com.dropbox.core.v2.DbxRawClientV2.uploadStyle(DbxRawClientV2.java:243)

in Help/Show Console, then it's because Dropbox have cut off the connection for the old SKD/Protocol being used. There are two solutions:
    1. Upgrade MD (best option)
    2. Switch to Dropbox Folders in Mondeydance/File/Syncing.
