sync stopped and can't reset sync

Hi. Syncing seems to have stopped working for my MD on both Linux (2017.10 (1706)) and Android (2022.1).

On my Android MD app, it says "syncing" and then seems to have finished (I see no errors or alerts), but looking at my Dropbox sync folder, there is no file that has been modified with today's date.

When I launch and quit my Linux MD app (which is when syncing takes place automatically, I think), nothing seems to happen (it used to display a popup "syncing" window for a few seconds) and looking at my Dropbox sync folder, there is no file that has been modified with today's date.

In the Linux MD app, when I select "Syncing..." from the "File" menu, MD seems to freeze for about 30-60 seconds and then nothing happens - so I can't even get to the sync settings to reset them.

Looking at errlog.txt on the Linux box, I see tons of "getting account info from dropbox failed: com.dropbox.core.NetworkIOException: Received fatal alert: protocol_version" (errlog.txt is attached). FYI, I've changed nothing with my Dropbox account since "forever." I hadn't even manually logged into it in a year or 2, until today (I can still log in with same credentials).

I'd strongly prefer not to pay for an updated version of MD when I'm not sure it would fix the problem (the sync issue/settings might span versions).

Thanks for assistance.

Yup - Dropbox have dropped support for the old API/SDK and thus, MD2017 Dropbox sync is broken.. You will have to upgrade....

Thanks for the quick reply, Stuart!

It's a little annoying that Infinitekind incorporated support for Dropbox's new API in newer versions of MD but didn't back-port that update. Syncing is kind of an important feature. I guess all developers eventually take older versions off their "supported" list.

FYI, I followed the steps in post 7 of this thread (https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/45756-need-to-reset-sync-from-secondary-computer) and MD then did let me see the sync settings popup window again, but it only requests that I authorize with Dropbox again and again - it never succeeds, which is likely the result of the API no longer being supported. I'm curious if backing up my MD data and then importing it into a "new file" loses any information or configurations or anything - this question was never answered on the original thread.

If you do file/export backup and then file/restore from backup, your whole dataset is intact. The one change is that it nukes most of your sync settings. Note: toolbox can properly nuke all your sync settings if required. However, the very latest MD let’s you not nuke the sync settings too when restoring.
