iCloud Drive sync

I'm a registered user running the most recent version of Moneydance (Moneydance 2022.5 build 4088 (Sun, 24 Jul 2022 23:00:00 +0000)) and MacOS 12.5 and iOS and iPad OS versions 15.6. I've noticed that the new beta version of Moneydance mobile now supports the iCloud drive sync (I've been using Dropbox) and I would like to migrate to this but I want to ensure I'm doing it right.

I understand that I need to use an alternative copy to test, but I would like to know whether there is a specific recommended sequence to test. I'm also using Moneydance+, so I want to ensure using a test file won't screw anything up.

I'm assuming that I should first change the Mac sync from Dropbox to iCloud, but I really appreciate hearing the recommended steps.

Hold down CMD-shift-space. It will ask you what to run. Type iCloud and you should see the iCloud Drive app. Run this.

There are txn files in the v3 dir.

But also within your dataset (right click, open package) there is a tiksync and then safe and then in/out.

Files start in in, get moved to out, then renamed to .mdtxn, then uploaded to v3. The first step is whether you see these sequence of files being created locally and then in the other Mac they should appear in v3 and end up also copied over to out on the other.

    Quit Moneyance on MAC 2

Entered 1 extra transactions on MAC 1

Synced showed on Finder at 14;53

Reopened Moneydance on MAC2, after waiting a while no update in app

Entered another transaction on MAC 1

Synced showed on Finder at 14:56

Again no update on Moneydance app on MAC 2

    SCREENSHOT (2) at MAC 2

I notice on MAC 1 on quilting a box says "closing file and syncing changes"

On MAC 2 it says "Backing up file”

It seems to me ??, that once Moneydance on MAC 2 is quit, it loses the the fact it has a sync requirement ???, as the transaction files mdtxn’s are turning up in MAC 2 sync folder per screenshot (2) just above

Also its clear to me Apple’s ICLOUD drive can get “Stuck”, but these tests seen to indicate it was OK, during the duration of these tests, as per screenshots show the mdtxn files being transferred

    Appreciate your thoughts

    Regards

    John Pierce

It's not clear whether the txn file that gets created on Mac1 finder, reaches Mac 2 in finder... (via iCloud)? This is the basic test and has nothing to do with MD as such..?

    Hi Stuart,

Yes it is clear this screenshot is on MAC 2 Finder window

It is the shared sync folder V3 sub folder

Great.. So do you see the latest txn file get moved into the Mac2 in or out directory? Would be great to see console for this Mac...

All I see in finder on MAC 2 is a iCloud sync, that initially shows a “cloud" symbol, and then shows the download happening, with the time stamp, a short time later the transaction appears in the Moneydance transaction log

It worked fine, until I quit MD on the MAC 2

Looking at the sync/V3 folder I see no In or out directories, just the list of mdtxn’s that are synced from MAC 1, as shown in screenshot (2) in my earlier Email.

If you point me in the right direction, I can extract part of the log from the console, I understand computers fairly well, but no expert.
