I've copied my data-folder from Windoz10-PC to iPadAir5 local directory.
Loaded the app and opening Moneydance is stuck at Sync selection.
I have my own multi-NAS backup solution and do not care for _ANY_ of my files being on _ANY_ "cloud".
I have only the free dropbox account which lacks enough space to hold MD if only temporarily and don't want to upgrade my account.
How do I use Moneydance on ipad with local data ?

    Hi R Gammage

The only way to sync between a Windows 10 PC and an iPad is to use your free Dropbox Account.
Don’t copy your data folder from your Windows 10 PC to your iPad, it want work.
A Free Dropbox account provides more than enough space to sync a number of Moneydance data sets so just move out unrelated files.
Use Moneydance’s internal sync engine FILES – SYNCING so start the syncing process and to complete syncing set up the mobile Moneydance app data on the iPad.
All moneydance data between Windows 10 and iPad is end to end encrypted by Moneydance using the password you create, with the password only being held within Moneydance on your devices not in the cloud, so your data is secure.

    Hope this helps

You can’t have ‘local’ data as you mean it for MD and iOS app. The app leverages iCloud and Dropbox APIs which will always look in the sync folders.

How large is your dataset? Run toolbox extension, analyse dataset and objects and post the results back here (as an attached txt file)

    Thanks for the lightening-fast response.

OK, I give.  Used MD/file/syncing to upload to my dropbox account with an encryption-key I provided.

Now, on iPad, when I select DropBox at the initial Sync dialog, it opens Safari to dropbox.com but I see nowhere to use my credentials (which is a different email than my appleid account).

Any ideas on how to proceed from here ?

BTW: This prime-day iPad is my first Apple-device, so be gentle.  :-)

I will not sing "I'm a little teapot" for a Klondike bar, but

I'd do some pretty sketchy shit for whiskey or bacon.

What happens if you log into Dropbox.com on the iPad before starting the MD sync connection?

You could also try preinstalling the Dropbox client first and log that in, and then again connect the app.

Just see if one of the above helps.

    1. Confirm/Create credentials on a FreeDropBox account

    2. WinsozPC : Moneydance File/Syncing = supply DropBox credentials and set encryption passphrase for Sync'ed database (mere seconds even with large MD database)

    3. iPad : Install DropBox app and login with your credentials, then exit app.

4: iPad : Install and Open Moneydance app.  Selected DropBox and it magically found my dropbox credentials.  Sync too but a few seconds and register-view opened.

    NOTES:

If you're creating a new dropbox account.  Using the same credentials as your appleid.apple.com account will make things simpler although somewhat less secure.

MD-App register,is sorted newest-first (vice last) and does not appear to be changeable
