Is it possible to delete old sync. files as I seem to have some old sync files that I no longer require?

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Before deleting any files, please can you provide the information below?

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance

    • Which devices are you syncing your data file with?

    • Is your data file stored in the default location?

Please note: if you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.

    • When you navigate to File->Syncing which sync method do you have selected?

    Dropbox Folder, Dropbox Connection, other?

    • Finally, is your most recent data showing correctly on all of your devices?

Generally, you can look at this folder:
    https://www.dropbox.com/home/.moneydancesync on Dropbox.
There is one "opaquely" named subfolder for each data set you have synced with Moneydance.
Under the subfolder for your data set there's another subfolder called "v3" which will contain one file for every change you make on the desktop.

You can use that folder in Dropbox's web interface to determine which are the most recent files.
In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend deleting any files unless you are extra confident.
In any case take a manual backup and ensure your data file is stored safely before making any changes.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

The software is the most recent, using the iCloud sync procedure

I am unsure if this is using the default folder or   Folder created in the
    Document folder on the desktop.

    Hello,

I am using version 2022.5 with iCloud sync. to connect to an iPhone.

The backups are saved on the laptop in the "Documents Folder". When I turned on the iCloud sync on the iPhone, it showed some earlier/other files that I wish to delete; if possible.

To go on the safe side, I recommend creating a backup before proceeding and save it to a location of your choice, eg.:your desktop (just in case).
To create a manual backup, choose File --> Export Backup.

Then, stop sync and delete the files you want to delete from iCloud, finally start iCloud sync anew. To achieve this, from your computer: Launch Moneydance and navigate to File->Syncing
Choose Don't Sync and close Moneydance.

From your phone: Launch the mobile app and select Settings->Syncing via iCloud>Disconnect. Restart your phone.

Then, in order to switch to iCloud Drive Sync you need to ensure that:

    • your computer is running Moneydance 2022.5 (4091)

    • your devices are using the same iCloud account - this is very important! It is not currently possible to sync to multiple iCloud accounts.

    • Navigate to File->Syncing and choose iCloud Drive

    • Set a "Passphrase".

On your iPad/iPhone you need to install the latest iOS mobile app.

Launch the mobile app and choose the same file as your computer.
Enter your Password to match the Passphrase on your computer.

Finally, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!
