Syncing data from Android device to pc
I wish to sync my android device money dance app to my windows PC. The entries on my android device is more update.
Hence i wish to transfer money dance entries to my windows PC.
Awaiting your support.

Hi Mithun,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
To sync to the same sync file as your mobile device, you should follow the steps below:
You will need to launch Moneydance on your computer and click on File-> New -> Open Synced File, there, select the same sync method as it was originally setup on your computer (Dropbox Connection or Dropbox Folder).
You will see a list of data files with the name of your base account, select the same as the one on your mobile device and you will see a prompt for the passphrase (it should match the one you have created on your computer's previously), wait for the initial sync process to finalize and that will be it.

Thank you for your email.
However, I couldn't complete the process as I have forgotten the
'encryption password' for the sync-able file in dropbox.
Please advise, how to proceed.

To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance

Thank you! I am using Moneydance Version 2020(1919).
I have reinstalled moneydance on my PC and don't have any backup data.
I have made expense entries in my android moneydance app which I wish to
sync on my computer.
However, I couldn't remember the encryption password used to sync this
document.
Kindly help me to retrieve the above files.

You could try this Toolbox feature:
Navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions->Install Toolbox
Launch the Toolbox and select MENU: General tools, choose Display Dataset Password/Hint and Sync Passphrase, finally select Proceed and your passphrase will be shown in the yellow window.

The toolbox feature is not listed in *Extensions>Manage Extensions*, hence
i couldn't install it.
Is it not available in this version?

You should be able to find it here. I believe the minimum required version is Moneydance 2019. I've added Stuart Beesley (the Toolbox developer) to this discussion who might correct me if I'm mistaken. Hopefully you don't mind me doing that.

I have managed to install the Extension Toolbox as per your guidance
However, Toolbox tab is not loading on clicking it from the Extension menu.

Ok. Toolbox will work on 2020.0(1915) onwards. However as an extension from 2021(3056) onwards. Else you have to run the .py script in MoneyBot.

The android add should be able to show you the passphrase. Go to the MD settings on the app and click show pass phrase..
So, do you still have a working desktop with MD installed and syncing? If so, grab the sync password from there... File/Syncing/Show Passphrase

I have installed MD on my PC and when clicking File->New->Open Synced File

dated 2019 & 2020, which I wish to load. However, I couldn't complete it as

And have you looked at the settings in the android app for syncing to look at the passphrase?
If you don’t have access to a working and syncing mobile or desktop app/dataset then the passphrase is lost.

Are you on the latest version of the Android App? I believe this feature was added recently (it certainly was on iPhone)... @Derek - can you advise where you can see this?

Unfortunately, the Passphrase doesn't show on the latest Android app. I believe it was an option in older versions (it was called show PIN or similar) but not on version 2022.1, I'm afraid.

Hi Maddy, Mithun, Stuart.
Mithun, without a Moneydance backup to restore your data to your PC that included your sync passphrase I see only one solution.
The beta version of Android used to include a display of the sync passphrase but some users of Android phones ran into problems with that beta. Mine always worked. Sean withdraw the Beta losing a lot of good feature but promised to reintroduce it including the passphrase display, but it never happened.
Maddy, I think the only way you are going to help Mithun to recover his data to his PC is by getting Sean to fix the Android beta and release it as he promised.
