How to ensure that syncing is turned off, and what to do with all the sync files?
I'm preparing to migrate to a new MD file because the current one is getting large. I plan to create a new file from the existing file. The current file is set up for syncing. So I have two questions:
(1) I don't want the new file to automatically start syncing. How do I ensure that the new file doesn't start syncing?
(2) The MD folder contains 20,000+ small files that appear to be related to syncing. Can I get rid of those before making the copy of the existing MD folder?
Perhaps it makes more sense to do an export from within MD to a QIF file and then an import into the new MD file. Still, there is a question of whether I can get rid of the 20,000+ small files that take up around 50 MB and add time to my backups.
I didn't find anything in the KB on point.

Assuming you are on latest MD?
Use toolbox, advanced mode, shrink dataset. How much did this reduce your file size to?
Then use file/export backup.
Then on new computer use file/restore backup and UNTICK retain sync settings.
That’s it.

Stuart:
Thanks for the ideas. I'm a real fan of your tools.
That does the trick. Also good to know that really everything is in the trunk file.
The size of the whole dataset folder tree is around 25 MB now, with the trunk file itself being 23 MB.
As for the syncing question, I think that if I go to the old machine and turn off syncing before I copy the dataset folder tree, that should keep it off on the new machine.

If you do a backup and restore as Stuart describes that turns off syncing on that copy.

As above. When you restore the backup using file/restore backup. UNTICK retain sync settings. That’s it.
