You need to upgrade (to 2022)....

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T18:11:12Z2023-01-04T18:11:18ZCannot sync to Dropbox

Hi Stuart.

Thank you for your reply.
I haven't even got to the part where I sync to my mobile. My issue is that I cannot connect to Dropbox from my pc Money Dance.

I have synced to my android in the past, so I can't understand when you say that this is not possible.

Cheers

Mark Curtistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T18:39:15Z2023-01-04T18:39:15ZCannot sync to Dropbox

Dropbox Connection or Dropbox folders...

If Connection, try Folders.... 2017 will not work

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T18:39:41Z2023-01-04T18:39:41ZCannot sync to Dropbox

.... because Dropbox recently disabled the old API (a few months ago)...

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T21:43:27Z2023-01-04T21:43:27ZCannot sync to Dropbox

To summarise.

Dropbox connection will no longer work with Moneydance 2017 because Dropbox dropped support for the version of the API that is in Moneydance 2017. If however you install the Dropbox client on your computer and use Dropbox folder from within Moneydance that should still work.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T22:03:35Z2023-01-04T22:03:39ZCannot sync to Dropbox

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I think it is very unfair that I bought this program so that I could sync with my phone, and that used to work. However, now I can no longer do that and the only way to make it work is to pay again to upgrade. Not great customer service tbh.

Mark Curtistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T22:29:29Z2023-01-04T22:29:29ZCannot sync to Dropbox

It’s nothing to do with MD. You purchased a version that’s now 6 years old and Dropbox have cut off access to old versions. As we said, use Dropbox client/folders instead.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T23:10:34Z2023-01-04T23:10:36ZCannot sync to Dropbox

Hmmm....Agree to disagree. I can accept buying a program and support for that program is finite. So you can then choose to continue using that version or upgrade to get newer features and continued support. But that is not the case here. The actual functionality of the program has changed/deteriorated. It no longer does what it used to do. That is very different. I have programs that are far older than 6 years that still do what they did when I bought them. The programs may have improved over the years, but my version still works as it did when I bought it.

I didn’t buy a subscription. I bought a fully functioning product, and that product should continue to work even if newer versions are released. If something has changed with Dropbox, as you say, then MD should either patch it, or offer a free or greatly reduced update.

As far as using Dropbox client/folders, as I said, nothing works. I only have 2 options. Dropbox or Shared Folder...Neither work.

Like I said...not great

Mark Curtistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T23:21:55Z2023-01-04T23:21:55ZCannot sync to Dropbox

You are trying to make Moneydance responsible for a change that another vendor did

As such you expect the company to expended engineering resources to release an update for a long discontinued version, there have been 3 major Moneydance releases since 2017. I do not know any vendor that would do that.

You can also upgrade at 50% discount.

I do not know of any technical reason why Dropbox Folder would not work, you of course have to have the Dropbox client software installed and working.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T23:26:26Z2023-01-04T23:26:27ZCannot sync to Dropbox

Yep..I have the Dropbox client software installed and working, so whether you know of any technical reason or not....It aint working.

Thanks for your views. Like I said before...agree to disagree. I guess it is just a difference in expectations. We'll leave it at that

Mark Curtistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T23:42:54Z2023-01-04T23:42:54ZCannot sync to Dropbox

The only time I have seen Dropbox folder not work is when the folder is created in a custom location, in this case it is necessary to use the Share Folder option and point Moneydance at the right folder as it will not find it otherwise.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-04T23:54:07Z2023-01-04T23:54:12ZCannot sync to Dropbox

So I'm looking at the MD website. There is very little information on there regarding what I would actually get for my £25. it looks pretty much identical to the 2017 version that I have...apart from the fact that the syncing should presumably work. Can you please tell me what has been improved since my version...or point me to where that information is online. If I am going to pay for an upgrade, it would be nice to know what has been upgraded.
As you said earlier, it is six years down the line, so I'm assuming that it is now greatly improved from my version.
Does it , for instance automatically move payments if the payment date falls on a weekend?

Mark Curtistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-05T00:00:41Z2023-01-05T00:00:41ZCannot sync to Dropbox

The version announcements are in the Blog

https://infinitekind.com/blog

The upgrade price is USD 25

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/574158522023-01-05T01:44:42Z2023-01-05T01:44:42ZCannot sync to Dropbox

just a user (as well) - your expectations are way off base, in my opinion. As you say, "agree to disagree", but to expect ANY company to adjust a 6 year old copy of software to make sure that something "works" when another company (Dropbox) changes things (significantly) is just inappropriate. Have you complained to Dropbox about how their changes have broken other software?

Also, you have been GIVEN a solution to keep your 6 year old software working. Move to Dropbox Folder vs. Dropbox client. That doesn't seem good enough for you.

So, for a software program you use, I assume, a bit, you can't seem to want to fork over $25 to get all the fixes - the program is not significantly different, but it does move with the times - making sure it continues to work with the rest of the world.

You seem to think that a six year old software is sufficient, should be maintained forever, and $25 is too much to pay (once every six years) to keep up to date. Good on you! Others including me, can agree to disagree with you.

Maybe you should move to Quicken... only $XXX or so per year.

dtd
