Is there anyway to change syncing from dropbox to onedrive?
In Moneydance it won't let me change the sync method. I've copied my .moneydancesync to Onedrive. How do I disconnect from dropbox and reconnect to onedrive?
thanks,
Clare

I'm a fellow user.
It is not possible to change syncing methods on the fly. When you set up syncing the password you use is then used when encrypting the data then making a copy of the data in the shared location. You need to follow a process that effectively recreates this, moving the data does not achieve this, your data set still has pointers to Dropbox in it.
To do so you need to completely stop syncing then to set it up from scratch using the new shared location, note that OneDrive does not support mobile devices. Only when performing a new setup does the pointers get created correctly.
If you have any problems in selecting the new syncing type you may need to install the Toolbox extension and use its force syncing cleanup option to clean out the existing data.

Thanks for the info. I didn't catch the part about one drive not supporting mobile devices. Thanks for the quick response.

Hi Clare,
I can see you’ve received a reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance customers. To add to this useful information about syncing you may want to refer to this article:
"Syncing with Mobile App" here
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Hi, I am confused by this statement in the article referenced by Maddy on May 9th:
Moneydance can now use any shared folder (such as Dropbox) to quickly sync your financial data conflict-free, using end-to-end encryption to maintain your privacy.
My understanding is that iCloud can only be used by those with Macintosh clients. Are there any other services that can be used besides Dropbox? Dropbox pricing is too expensive. You can buy 50 GBs on iCloud for $0.99 / month and Google Drive is free for 15 GB. Any more info?
Thanks, Al

The article could do with expansion. I'll make some general points
- Dropbox is the only solution that can be used across all devices
- iCloud can only be used in an Apple environment
- Any shared folder is only for desktop/notebook type devices i.e. excludes mobile devices.
You only need a free Dropbox account no matter how many devices you have. Dropbox only uses a client license if you use the Dropbox client application.
Moneydance will never use the Dropbox client on mobile devices it always uses an API, so therefore no mobile device will use a connection license, provided you do not install the Dropbox Client software.
Desktop/notebook type devices will use a Client license if you use Dropbox Folder as your Moneydance sync method, since that requires the client software. If you use Dropbox Connection no client software is required because like the mobile it uses the API, and therefore if you do not install the client no license is used.

dwg, thanks for this info. What prompts this enquiry is I have moved to Windows 11 on a new PC and I haven't yet tried to reconnect my syncing with Dropbox. I have had a free plan since the beginning and it is only 2 GB and I'm at 1.25 GB, so I thought I would explore my options. So did I do something wrong when I originally set this up on my old machine with my existing Dropbox account, or is there another procedures I should have followed? Thanks, Al

No matter what method you use, the same amount of space is used on Dropbox or any of the other solutions.
As a general rule be careful with attachments, depending on the format they can use a lot of space, so ensure they are the minimum size you can before attaching them.
Moneydance does not perform any maintenance on the share location - it does not have a designated owner after all, so it may be necessary to manually do some maintenance, which would also cut down on space used. The approach to take there will depend on your environment and the version of Moneydance in use.

FYI. If you use toolbox and shrink dataset, it will reduce your dataset size. If you then use force push/refresh sync (0 days) it will reduce the space taken up in your sync location.
