WebDAV support?

Would you please consider adding WebDAV support to Moneydance (incl iOS)? I am returning as a MD user after a long absence and would prefer to sync my devices *without* storing the data in someone else's cloud. I use WebDAV with KeePass to sync my password vault and it would be great to do the same with MD.

Thanks,
Kent

    Hello support team!

I'm extremely interested in being able to share my .moneydance file between computers and mobile devices (e.g., my spouse and I can access the file from either of our laptops or mobile devices). Right now that appears the be only possible with Dropbox since iCloud relies on a single account. Dropbox is great in many ways, but I'm just not keen on storing personal info (encrypted or otherwise) with a cloud provider and would much rather use a private server - likely with webDAV.

Can you please comment on whether or not this could be added to the roadmap? Also, I'm happy to work with you directly for testing if that's helpful.

    Thank you!

Any service that gives you a folder on your desktop, can be used.. Just tell MD to use the SharedFolder sync method and point it to your shared folder..

    BACKUP/TEST first

    Thanks, Stuart!

This appears to work well for sharing between desktop/laptop computers, but not mobile devices - which can only sync to Dropbox or iCloud. I'm rusty on unix, but will try a symbolic link in the iCloud directory that points to the shared drive on a private server...and see if that bridges the gap.

Thanks for pointing out this option.

    Update for anyone interested...

I moved my Moneydance file to my private server and created a symbolic link on each laptop (in the expected iCloud location). This works great between laptops - each can access and update the data file, with revisions available to both laptops nearly instantaneously.

Not surprisingly, this behavior does not extend to the two mobile devices. Rather each mobile device behaves this way ONLY with the file it is synchronizing to via the iCloud link on both mobile device and laptop. This behavior does NOT extend to the server based file; to make updates to the file available to the second mobile device, that specific linked (iCloud) laptop must open the data file. Again, this is not a surprise; it makes sense when considering the implications of this workaround.

With a little care I can manage this arrangement for a while, mostly using the mobile devices to "check-in" on my accounts, but making data entry on the laptops. But it would be ideal if the iOS app also could choose a webdav or other server link.

Moneydance this shouldn't be a huge lift, won't you consider adding the option?

This is my own take on this.

The mobile applications are currently using APIs to interact with Dropbox/iCloud rather than file type services so I think it would take some effort.

The direction Moneydance is taking is a more longer term and involves the full Moneydance program, especially on devices like Tablets running IOS and Android. Where your Smartphone type device will be fitting in this scenario is still an unknown from what I have seen, I do not think any of the users, including those that test future releases of Moneydance really knows, has the developer made an decisions in the space I just do not know, all of the discussing so far are around the rewriting of the backend to facilitate future developments.

In the interim I would say Dropbox is the best option for mobile devices, it has been in use the longest and is a known quantity.

I would definitely second the notion that instead of having a symlink in iCloud, store your webdav-accessible folder in Dropbox. iCloud is extremely finicky about accessing iCloud Drive files from outside of applications that interface directly with Apple's terrible APIs.
