Changing from Dropbox to icloud for syncing
I went into the File > Sync and changed to iCloud, but I didn't tell it anything else. does it know where to go to sync?

Yup. It knows.
If you install/run toolbox extension. Then click top right, open md folder, open sync folder… it will show you the iCloud sync folder.
