1. My wife and I have separate Dropbox accounts, so we don't have dropbox access to each other's fiels.. We would like to sync a single Moneydance data file.

We both run Windows 11 PCs. Can you suggest how to set up synced data?

2. A second question - if we both started working on our separate instances of Moneydance at the same time and then and saved, one after the other, what would happen?

    I'm a fellow Moneydance user.

There is a specific Knowledge base article regarding Sharing data between Dropbox accounts and using that shared data with Moneydance:

For your second question Moneydance would post the transactions in order of entry, each transaction is timed stamped to facilitate this. It is worth noting that Moneydance is automatic saving data as you go so users are not initiating data saves.

    1. Assuming both instances are sync’d then it’s fine. You would just get two good new transactions.
