Troubles Syncing

I have downloaded the iPhone 4 app for Moneydance and following the users guide. The Network Sync Setting is telling me that no device found. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    Will this only work if I have the wifi turned on. I allowed for my wifi and not it sees my phone.

    This symptom is not rare. There are many users reported that the syncronization is not reliable. Despite following the guide such as prevent any special character in device name, desktop Money Dance still did not see any iphone. Weird is other iphone applications such as wallet and Pocket Informant can synchronize in the same wifi with desktop programs. Months ago there are posts stating a newer version will be released to solve this issue but no words from Infinitkind to tell how many months passing in order to get reliable synchronization. This also happens with Android version even it has been outsourced to another developer. The Android version only works with Drop Box but not local wifi. Just hope the newer version should has released at least year ago.

    We are aware that syncing for the Moneydance iphone/ipad app is not working well on some of our customer's network configurations. We apologize to those who have been affected by this. We have made it our top priority to redesign the syncing mechanism to address these issues.

    The next release of the app will include a syncing mechanism that is immune to issues with local network and router configurations.

    The new syncing mechanism will work in any network configuration and will not require both the desktop and device apps to be running at the same time. In addition, you will be able sync anywhere you have internet access.

    We are excited to roll out this fall an app with bulletproof connectivity that maintains the same standards of security and reliability you've found in the desktop version of Moneydance.

    We appreciate the patience that the Moneydance community who is affected by syncing issues has given us to figure out the best new implementation. We will notify you once the new release is available.

    We have our lead developer on lockdown and he doesn't get to party on New Years unless he finishes ;-)

    But seriously, its in beta-testing and the lead developer is working like crazy to get it finished, so hopefully soon.

    MD sync'ed well with my iPhone until I upgraded to Lion OS X on my Mac and now the iPhone is not recognized by MD. I tried all of the suggestions on the MD website to no avail. Will the new upgrade solve this problem with sync'ing? Any further ETA on this?

    Hi,
    The way that the new app will sync will avoid this issue. The way we are doing it is a major rewrite of how it connects that avoids alot of the system specific stuff that could trip it up. Unfortunately I don't have any specific date from the developers other then soon.

    I just added several transactions on my iPad and when I got home I was attempting to sync my desktop to my iPad, so it would add all the transactions to my desktop version of the app. But instead it went the other way and decided to sync my iPad to my desktop and completely erased all of the transactions that I added to my iPad. Why would this happen and is there a way to recover any of my transactions entered on my iPad?

    Hi, what may have happened is that you may have synced to your desktop but closed the program on your desktop without saving the changes to it. Then the next time you synced the app's data got overwritten. Does that sound like a thing that may have happened. We've heard about this a handful of times and the above explanation seemed to be the cause in prior cases. Unfortunately the data is lost that was on the iPad.
    I apologize for the inconvenience, not in the next release, but in subsequent ones we will hopefully have something to prevent this.

    Actually that is not what happened, I didn't close anything. I just opened both of the programs like I always do and watched in the message display on the desktop version that it "finished syncing with my ipad" and I watched all of the new transactions disappear from my ipad and revert to the latest saved version on my desktop. Very disappointing. Now I don't have the receipts from the transactions and I don't know what my balance is anymore.

    Dear People

    I'm in MD 2010r3 (757). And my iPad/iPhone are NOT able to even see the "configure network extension" thing ... is a shame ...

    What do you plan to do with this?

    Will be necessary to upgrade to be able to properly sync the iPad/iphone?

    Do you have any plans on doing a full Objective-C implementation for the Mac Osx customers?

    Do you have the latest release of Moneydance for the iPad/iPhone? That ought to be version 1.4.

    The "configure network extension" is on the computer end of Moneydance. You did install the "Network Synchronizer" extension in Moneydance, correct? It is there that you "configure network extension".

    You might consider upgrading to the latest release of Moneydance.

    Why do an "Objective-C" release of Moneydance for OSX when Oracle now has Java 7 available for downlaod for OSX?

    Tx for your prompt reply. I add another thing, in my old mac mini, snow leopard, older moneydance, the iPad is seen without issues. I do not connect to that old version/data (but that could also be an idea as the file format should be the same).

    In my Lion MacBook pro full patched, moneydance 2010r3 (757), the device is not seen. Any hints on things I could try to be if I have more luck? using one Java instead of other? The message is always the same "no devices running MD were found" ...

    Any suggestions?

    On June 7 we submitted the iOS app to Apple to approval, so we'll definitely post on our blog, Twitter, and Facebook as soon as it's available. This update includes significant improvements to syncing, including Dropbox based syncing. We're not sure how long the approval queue is (Apple is a bit opaque about it) but we're hoping soon! We'll also post on this thread when the app is available.

    Some bad news: Apple did not approve our latest update to the iPhone/iPad/iPod Moneydance app. This was due to the Dropbox authorization page linking to an external signup form.

    The good news: we've re-submitted the app using a newer version of the Dropbox SDK that resolves the issue while also making the Dropbox authorization a bit easier. This submission also fixes a few small bugs that were discovered in the past week.

    We're all very sorry for the additional delay in getting the app update. I expect it will be another 5 working days which is Apple's current advertised time to review app updates.

    Luis,

    The Moneydance app will now sync via Dropbox (although wifi is still an option) so that your data will sync no matter where you are in the world. I've been using Dropbox sync as a beta tester and I really can't imagine going back to wifi- it's amazing to have my data updated instantly. If you have any other questions, let us know,
