Android app is not finding the Dropbox folder

The Android app is not syncing using the Dropbox folder method. When I open the Android app, in the Choose a Data Set screen it shows "No folders found" at the bottom. I am certain that there is a .moneydancesync folder in Dropbox, the Windows app is syncing to that folder, and I am logged into the same Dropbox account on both Android and Windows.

@Maddy, following successfully getting the sync back from your instructions, a new version of the Android app appeared late yesterday evening, I've downloaded that on the assumption that this is the new app you mentioned and now this isn't working. Well by not working I mean it's not possible to add (+) a new transaction or get to settings as the key press actions are so high they merge with the Android status bar so are impossible to action. I'm Google Pixel 9, latest Jan version, running standard Pixel Launcher. I'm assuming as I joined the Beta stream that's what I downloaded, can you move back to the previous version for download??

@chrisbaxter001, I'm just a user, but to answer your question about returning to the previous version of the Android app instead of the beta version, within the Google Play Store listing for any app there should be a beta section in the listing with a button to leave the beta. Once you do that and uninstall the app, the app you can reinstall at that point will be the non-beta version.

I'm not sure it does you any good to do that though since the non-beta version of the app doesn't sync anymore. It seems that for most of us on flagship Android phones, we're stuck with a non-functional regular happen and non-functional beta app. We're just going to have to wait until they fix the UI issues of the beta app. In my opinion, it's better to stay in the beta channel since that's likely where the UI fix is going to come out.

Please try uninstalling the app and then installing it again.
When the app is running and you should click on "Settings", it should read: Moneydance 2026 (build 20260130) at the bottom of your phone screen.

If this is not the case, please let me know and I'll report it to the development team.

    Thank you

I have tried everything in this thread, and still cannot get the Android app to sync. Now, I cannot even get the app to open. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled both the play store version, and the beta version. Both with the same results:

I open the app, Link with Dropbox, then choose file to sync. After choosing the file, isshows "Processing 6 of 7 updates", then the app crashes. I get the same results regardless of app version.

    Hi Maddy

I am using 2026 (build 20260130) and it is syncing. I see this version includes a pin lock on the settings page but is is greyed out. Were you aware, will it be activated in a future release?

    Best Wishes Chris

@Maddy, it's not possible to press Settings or the + symbol at the top of the screen as the app renders this in the Android system area at the top of the screen, pressing takes me to the Android phone settings etc. However in landscape I could just about hit Settings and the + symbol; and I do indeed have 2026 (build 20260130). I have re-installed and re-synced and it's exactly the same situation.
Note-selecting an account and pressing + (in orange highlight) lower on the screen is ok, but anything required at the top to e.g. Save or Go Back requires landscape.

Just uninstalled MoneyDance, on my Samsung Galaxy S24 android device, then went to infinitekind and installed the android app from the downloads page. Opened MoneyDance, got page to Link Dropbox Account, signed in to my Dropbox accont (with passkey), get screen with MoneyDance logo asking permission to access Dropbox folder, I pressed "Allow" button and get a screen with title "Choose a Data Set" and in faint letters the message Moneydancefound the files below synced to your Dropbox account. Please select the file you like to sync on this device" and the rest of the screen is blank.

I note when looking at Google Play Store directly it indicates "Looking for Moneydance?, This app isn't available for your device because itr was made for an older version of android."

    Hope this helps.

Final update from me - Beta Android practically unusable. Unable to select the ,save, transaction in portrait as Android menu overlays. When I rotate to landscape, transaction details are reset (current date / zero amount) so that's of no use.
Desktop and iPad app still working great (phew)
Please let us know when updated version available.

I too am having this problem. My wife has the moneydance app on her S24 and it has stopped syncing. My S23 has not synced since Saturday, January 24. I have reinstalled the app 5 times trying various different things ChatGpt told me to do, all to no avail. Hoping for a fix!

Unfortunately, version 2022 is no longer functional. As a temporary solution, you can install version 2026 of the Android app, this is a Beta version.

First, press and hold the Moneydance mobile icon to uninstall v.2022, then restart your phone.

After that, join the beta program so you can install version 2026 of the Android app.
You can download it from the bottom‑right corner of the preview page or directly through Google Play.

To join the Google Play Services beta:
You can sign up either in a web browser or directly on your device. Once you’re enrolled, the beta version will automatically download to any device using the same Google account. After restarting your device, the beta will be active.

    To enable automatic updates:

    Open Google Play

Tap the menu in the top‑left

    Go to Settings

    Select Auto‑update apps

Note: Rest assured, the development team is currently working on a permanent solution. Because you’re on the beta version, you’ll receive the update automatically once it’s released.

You need the 2026 version of the App, you can down load from Playstore but you have to allow Beta updates to find it.

Note: As a temporary workaround, if it’s possible for you, try switching your phone to Dark Mode and reducing the font size. It’s not ideal, but it may help make the app usable for now.

I've followed all the suggestions - deleted data and cache, uninstalled Android v.2022, restarted phone, signed up for Beta, downloaded v.2026. I've lost count of how many times I've done this, but the sync never completes. There are around 23300 records to sync.

I did give up a few days ago but have tried again as I rely on the app so much.

If you want comments - for some reason when I open the app it says it
says "just a moment please while we load your file". That screen
doesn't change nor load my file. I then close the app and reopen it and
everything is fine. Not sure why the second time gets past that screen,
but just thought you should know . Other than the "open twice" issue it
is working fine. S23 phone using One UI version 8.0 android 16.

I had a similar issue with Moneydance around the same time frame, except my mobile wouldn't sync at all, even though the computer app was updated and my other computer was syncing just fine. Granted I use dropbox to hold my sync files, so this may not apply to you.
After a couple of hours of playing around this is the answer I came up with.
Open Moneydance and create an export of the file. Put it in a safe place.
Close moneydance completely on all devices. This is important as you will need to set up sync again on each one.
Log into dropbox and delete the moneydance folder.
    Uninstall money dance.
In folder explorer go to C:/Users/(your log on name folder) and delete .moneydance.
    Download moneydance from the website.
Reboot the machine. You will reinstall after the next step.
This is for android, so I don't know if iphone has this option...
Go to the app on your phone and uninstall.
Go to playstore and find moneydance.
Scroll to the bottom and select to be a beta tester/user.
Give it a few minutes. So while you are waiting for time to pass, install the fresh download of moneydance and use the import function to import the file your exported.
Ensure you have sync setup with dropbox.
Now go to your phone and download moneydance, since it's been a few minutes. When you open it, the dropbox sync is very different from before.
Once logged in, you will then select folder, which will be the brand new one that you just did with the PC application.
If you have more than one computer you are using to sync with moneydance, ensure you uninstall and remove the .moneydance folder from it also. This will give you a clean start for the application and the number of folders/files in dropbox is reduced significantly. I had almost 1.2gb of moneydance info and when I went through this, I am in the MB range now.
    I hope this helps.

I tried the method above of exporting a backup, blanking everything and starting again. It initially worked, but then the android (beta) app froze when I tried to view a bank account. It then slightly corrupted the data, changing a couple of transactions to a long since closed bank and creating a new bank account with the dataset name. After correcting the transactions on the desktop the android app now crashes and won't load the data. I really hope it is fixed soon as I use this extensively.

With the updated 5-Feb-26 beta update on Android I managed to get the data to sync. But then if I quit and go back into the Android app it goes back to "performing an initial sync" and is stuck.

I've deleted the syncing from desktop and mobile, deleted dropbox folder, started again, and I repeat the same issue. After syncing once and quitting the mobile app I can not load it again, it goes back to initial sync and gets stuck.

    Chris,
That is very interesting. When you remove the dropbox folder .moneydance and if you wait for a few minutes, does it show back up on it's own? I had that issue because of several devices syncing to dropbox and when the device that was setup under my prior working application sync'd, it put the folder and unusable files back on drop box. I don't mean to say that is your issue, but I got lucky and noticed it before pulling what little hair I have left out.
Is there a way you can take a screen shot of the andorid app and post it here? I am curious as to what it looks like. I can't even say I can even fathom how to get it to work, but anything beats nothing. What version of Android are you running?
