MD's lack of response re Synching

I think I can safely assume that there are many of us who have been patiently waiting for MD to provide us with a functional synching mechanism for close to a year. Many of us are Quicken refugees, quite a few from other Mac finacial programs. Reading the numerous posts from members who are experiencing synching problems I can only commend all and congratulate them on their saintly patience.
What I personally find egregious, offensive and totally unacceptable is that no one from MD's Tech Support community has had the courtesy to provide all of us with a concise, detailed explanation on their inability to bring this issue to a successful conclusion. Instead for the the past year, all we are ever provided with is the standard platitude "...we're working on a solution". Besides insulting our intelligence, your inadequate lack of a precise and timely detailed response seems to point to a "corporate culture" of obfuscation delay and possible inability to resolve this problem. To keep all of us "hanging on", I find unconscionable.

Then you haven't discovered the posts that discovered that it has to do with Apple's Bonjour network flakiness issues.

How does my alleged "lack-of-discovery" of Apple's Bonjour network apply and or relate to all of the other Mac compatible accounting programs which synch perfectly with their iOS counterparts?

There are posts, here on the Moneydance forums that made the discovery that it is an issue surrounding the Bonjour network system.

It has taken more than a year to discover the bonjour issue interrupt the wifi sync? I have been using Spb Wallet, Safe Wallet and Iliumsoft eWallet, all sync with host pc with bonjour service without any problem. I would like MD announce this issue a year ago and let user to determine whether to get along if users are just want a single software without the hope of a copy of software in mobile. I also look forward MD to file a bug report to Apple despite MD claimed "Without being able to reliably reproduce the problem we cannot file a bug report. Instead we are working hard on a sync solution that will not need bonjour."

Bonjour works just fine on my LAN - wireless printer/scanner, iTunes Sharing, etc. I have a 100% Apple LAN, with a Time Capsule router. Only the cable modem is a non-Apple product.

Yet the WiFi sync does not work most of the time - in fact, I've given up using it.

I even have an iOS blood pressure recording app (iBP) that syncs up between my iPad and my iPhone perfectly, all the time. No idea whether it uses Bonjour - probably not - but it works.

It isn't clear to me why syncing via Dropbox or iCloud isn't an option either.

I use around 1/2 a dozen different apps that all sync with my PC using Bonjour. MoneyDance is the only one that does not work correctly.

I ALWAYS get my app to sync with my PC EVERY time.

    How to do this? :-
    1. Ensure that your Desktop version of MoneyDance is open.
    2. Select MD app in your iPhone. The app opens. Nothing else happens.
    3. Close app in iPhone.
    4. Open app in iPhone. This time, the little wheel spins and you will get a message on the desktop that says "Syncing with IPhone". Be careful that you don't miss it as it only takes a couple of seconds!
    5. You will now see that both iPhone and desktop accounts are in sync.

This suggests that there is not a fault with Bonjour, but with the MoneyDance app.

I just wish we had some update. We've heard it would be out in the Fall (of 11), then year end (11) then March 2012, then it was undergoing private beta testing. Then silence. We are now mid-May. Did the beta show issues? Is it waiting for MD-12 to be released at the same time, what??? We'd really like an update.

    Hello everyone,

We are aware that there are serious issues with syncing with our mobile iOS version of Moneydance for many users. We have been doing a closed beta test for the last two months of the new release of the app. There have already been 16 different revisions of the app to try to fix various problems. We are not ignoring the syncing problems of the mobile app, but it clearly has taken us much longer than projected to complete a version of the beta that we think resolves enough of the existing issues to release publicly. We apologize that we have missed our targets, and appreciate everyone's continued patience as we continue to work on the mobile app.

I, for one, could better tolerate these long droughts of no-updates if you folks were more attentive to notifying us (via Twitter/your blog/etc.). There has to be someone who has that role?

    Aaron,

You know, you're absolutely right. I just had a talk with Sean (our lead developer) and agreed that it would make more sense for someone a little less busy than him to head-up our social media presence. The Moneydance team has been growing, and part of that growth is shifting around who does what so we can provide the best possible experience for our users.

From now on I'll be our primary social media person, and we'll be posting updates on the progress of the app on our Twitter feed. We'll post on our blog when the app is released- we believe Twitter's format is more appropriate for ongoing updates. We'll also post on this thread when the update is available.

tl;dr- you're right, we'll be posting updates on Twitter more often, thank you for bearing with us as we grow.

While I must confess that my initial post had a rather "gruff tone" to it, it appears that with one or two exceptions, I've struck a chord with fellow MD users. The motive was to see how long my post would take to ellicit a reply from MD Tech Support. Only after nine days, Ms. AngIe Rauscher finally decided to respond to poster Aaron about a planned improvement in the reallocation of communication resources due to "growing pains" of MD. Nevertheless, her failure to again address my secondary complaint of my initial post, WHERE IS A FUNCTIONAL MD SYNCH, and the reasons for its continued delay, haven't done much to resurrect any level of confidence in MD's modus operandi.

    Leserbua,

I would like to point out that Ethan from Moneydance support responded on May 16, 2 days after your initial post, with a summary of our beta testing progress. The functional sync is in the beta app, which will support both local wifi and Dropbox-based syncing. The reason for the delay is that we discovered issues with the sync during beta-testing and have been working to iron out those problems. This is precisely the reason that we are doing beta tests. We're currently on build 28 of the beta app, and it appears most issues have been ironed out and we're working on polishing. The remote syncing has been especially convenient to use and complex to diagnose and resolve issues with.

I hope this answers your initial questions, and I'll be posting updates on our Twitter feed every few days to keep our users apprised of our progress. Thank you for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that we've submitted the iOS app to Apple and it's currently in their review queue. We're putting together detailed documentation on installing and setting up the new version, including Dropbox syncing, to be released when the app is. We'll post on this thread, Twitter, and our blog when the app has been approved by Apple and has been released.

Thanks for bearing with us, and hopefully I'll have another announcement for you soon!

That's great news. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I think this will make the MoneyDance iPhone app much more useful.

Some bad news: Apple did not approve our latest update to the iPhone/iPad/iPod Moneydance app. This was due to the Dropbox authorization page linking to an external signup form.

The good news: we've re-submitted the app using a newer version of the Dropbox SDK that resolves the issue while also making the Dropbox authorization a bit easier. This submission also fixes a few small bugs that were discovered in the past week.

We're all very sorry for the additional delay in getting the app update. I expect it will be another 5 working days which is Apple's current advertised time to review app updates.

If you have any questions, please post in our new category for questions about the app update. This will help us to more effectively address any questions related to the new version of the Moneydance iPhone app.

We hope you love this new app as much as we do, and thanks as always for using Moneydance.
