What causes sync to occur ?
I have problems getting sync to work reliably. It seems best if I use the my MacBooks own created network rather than my home wireless one. However, sometimes it will then sync immediately while others it can take 10 or 20 minutes and very often I end up stopping and starting the apps to try to force syncing. The worst time seems to be after one sync in a session I then update more account transactions on my MacBook but cannot get the sync to work until another day.
I know its not the underlying services as my other apps like Bento, Docs to Go, etc sync when I hit their sync button. Now maybe thats my issue why does Mondance not have a sync button like all my other apps - is there a way of forcing it when I want by some means, and if not what criteria automatically kick off the sync process?

I have exactly the same problem, the app says it will sync when you load the app and it hardly ever does. Please help.

I read that it should sync when you start up the .app with the desktop running. I have found that it's the other way around. You have the have the (in my case) iTouch on and running the MD.app, THEN start the desktop app. Give it about 30 seconds, and the star next you your filename appears (indicating that the file has not been saved since your last change). I have run this a few times, it seems to be consistent each time.
Let me know if I'm wrong...

Hi
When the device comes online it broadcasts its existence over the local network. If Moneydance and the extension are already loaded, it will detect that broadcast and attempt to sync.
In addition, when the extension detects that a file has been opened or the extension/MD is initially loaded, it will broadcast a query for any devices on the local network that have the MD sync service on them (like the iphone app) and attempt to sync with any that respond.
So, in theory, it should start syncing when either 1) the iphone app comes online, or 2) the desktop app+extension comes online (or a file is opened).
However if you are using a fairly old version of Moneydance they might need to start the desktop version of Moneydance first, open the correct file, and then start the iphone app.
