<p>Well, it does appear that Java is installed on your computer and
functioning, so I'm not sure why Moneydance isn't utilizing it. If
it worked with Apple's Java until you uninstalled it, unfortunately
it may just be best to install it again and having the multiple
instances of Java on your computer shouldn't cause any harm. As
well, just to be sure, the version of Moneydance 2012 that you
downloaded matches the bits (32bit or 64bit, depending on which you
have) of your operating system, correct?</p>

I just upgraded to OS X 10.8.3.</p>
<p>The release of Moneydance for OS X 10.6 and older is, in fact,
requiring a Java SE 6 runtime to be installed.</p>
<p>Very interesting indeed.</p></div>james ftag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-17T22:52:45Z2013-04-17T22:52:45ZDropbox required?<div><p>Here is a screenshot.</p></div>james ftag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-18T00:19:32Z2013-04-18T00:19:32ZDropbox required?<div><p>Hi James F,</p>
<p>Do you know if that was occurring on earlier versions of Mac OS
X 10.8? Or any versions before that?</p>

download. You only offer that for Windows.</p>
<p>Besides, that only refers to the Windows installers. Java code
is perfectly happy to run on either a 32-bit or 64-bit JVM.</p></div>grazutag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-18T10:16:17Z2013-04-18T10:16:17ZDropbox required?<div><p>Scott,<br>
This was not happening with OS X 10.7.?.</p>
<p>I do not know about 10.8.0, .1, or .2. I upgraded directly from
10.7.? to 10.8.3.</p>
<p>Again, Moneydance for OS X 10.6 and older works under OS X 10.7,
but not under 10.8.3.</p>
<p>greg,<br>
The 32bit versions are for Windows and Linux. It does not apply to
OS X, although it appears that it might. It just might be that
Moneydance for OS X 10.6 and older needs a 32bit Java
installed.</p></div>james ftag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-18T17:01:35Z2013-04-18T17:01:35ZDropbox required?<div><p>Hi Greg,</p>
<p>You're right, I was mistaken. We're going to have to look into
the issue with Mac OS X 10.8 using the 10.6 and below version of
Moneydance requiring Apple's Java and get back to you.
Unfortunately, the fix for that most likely will be for you to
install Apple's Java.</p>

10.7 and later with iPad without going through Dropbox.</p></div>grazutag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-19T08:02:11Z2013-04-19T08:02:11ZDropbox required?<div><p>It is preferable for Moneydance to use Apple's 1.6 java. It is
the only version of Java that supports retina displays, among other
advantages (less UI bugs, etc). Why would you not want to use
Apple's java?</p>
<p>Thanks,<br>
Sean</p></div>Sean Reillytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-19T08:18:08Z2013-04-19T08:18:08ZDropbox required?<div><p>Apple is not actively continuing development of their JVM beyond
security updates, and only those they feel like releasing. While I
could keep both Apple's Java 6 and the current Java 7 both
installed, as I mentioned earlier, I prefer to minimize the number
of installed JVMs, preferably to one.</p>
<p>Personally, I don't have a machine with Retina Display, but it
appears <a href=
"http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8004866">HiDPI
will be supported in Java 8</a>. Besides, the Java VM you bundle
with the 10.7-and-later version of Moneydance for OS X is already
Java 7 as far as I can tell (Java: 1.7.0-moneydance2012-888).</p>
<p>No offense, but If it's so buggy, why would you bundle it?</p></div>grazutag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/169495722013-04-19T08:42:05Z2013-04-19T08:42:05ZDropbox required?<div><p>Greg,<br>
The Java 6 VM from Apple is currently still superior to the JDK 7
from Oracle.</p>
<p>For the OS X 10.7+ version of Moneydance we bundle the Java 7
bundle because:<br>
1) It's the only JVM that is compatible with the sandbox which is
required for app store operation, and 2) We've patched it to fix a
handful of bugs that still exist in the public Oracle JVM. We have
submitted those patches to Oracle but they haven't all been
accepted.</p>
<p>So if you are using the 10.6 and earlier version of Moneydance,
we strongly recommend using Apple's java. We also <em>strongly</em>
recommend using dropbox for syncing, because wifi syncing is simply
unreliable. When syncing via dropbox, moneydance encrypts all of
your data in addition to the encryption (transport + storage) apply
by the dropbox service. So your data will be twice-encrypted, and
can be synced without needing moneydance to be open on all devices
and on the same wifi network in order to sync at all.</p>
<p>Thanks,<br>

circumstances will I ever entertain the notion of trusting my
sensitive personal financial information to a bunch of college kids
fresh out of Y Combinator. A bank sure as hell wouldn't do that;
why would I? I realize many people have no problem with that, but
many people have no notion of data privacy and security. I do.</p>
<p>Just my personal policy.</p>
<p>Regarding Java support, your explanation makes sense. I'll
continue to use the sandboxed version then and hope for some
additional sync functionality to iPad which doesn't require using
such a third party.</p></div>grazu
