Can I do this?

I have Moneydance installed on my Windows and Mac machines, syncing through Dropbox.

When I switch on syncing on one machine, it switches off on the other.

Is this intended behaviour?

Thanks

    Hello,

Can you please clarify if you are sharing your main desktop data file between your computers? If so, what method are you using to share that file?

    Hi,

Can you send us the output of your console logs from each of the computers that you're trying to sync? This can be found by going to Help -> Console window in Moneydance, then clicking the "Copy to clipboard" button and pasting the output to us here.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I've done that, along with some screen grabs that explain what I'm doing. All in the attached word file.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm terribly sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced trying to sync your data files. Can you confirm that you do not have Moneydance open on both computers at the same time? If you are doing so, then you need to be aware that the syncing function will not work properly when this is done and that having the file open on multiple computers at on time could actually result in your data becoming corrupted and lost.

Also, can you confirm that you are waiting for the changes that you are making on one computer are given a chance to sync to the other folder before you open your data set on the other computer? Syncing does not happen instantaneously as the file needs to pass from one computer to Dropbox's severs and then from Dropbox's servers to your other computer. So, after you change your sync settings on your Windows machine can you close Moneydance on your Windows computer and then verify that the Dropbox app on your Mac is showing an "Up to date" sync status?

If you are following the instructions above and you're still having trouble then the issue could be that you are running an older version of Moneydance 2015. According to your logs, you are using Moneydance 2015 (build 1175). A newer version is available! Can you try updating both of your computers to the latest stable build of Moneydance 2015 and see if the resolves the issue you are seeing? You can download the latest version of Moneydance 2015 from this page.

If you are still seeing the issue after updating then it might be that the problem is caused by the fact the you have the outdated Network Sync extension installed on your Windows machine, which could conflict with Moneydance's built-in Dropbox syncing. Can you uninstall it by going deleting the netsync.mxt file from your fmodules directory?

If you're using Windows, then your fmodules folder should be located at:

    C:\Users\(yourusername)\.moneydance\fmodules

Make sure you close Moneydance before navigating to the fmodules directory and deleting the netsync.mxt file.

If you are still experiencing this problem after updating to the newest version of Moneydance and deleting the netsync file then could you please send us the latest output of the console logs from both your computers?

    Hi,

I can confirm that I do not have Moneydance open in more than one place at once and that I am giving Dropbox time to sync. The problem is not so much that syncing is wrong, more that it is switched off when I open the app on the different machine.

I have deleted the netsync.mxt file.

I have updated to the latest version of the program on both machines. Unfortunately the problem persists - word file of the relevant console logs is attached.

    Thanks

    Hello,

According to the screenshot you sent, Moneydance isn't directly connected to your Dropbox account, which sometimes works better than using the Dropbox folder on your computer. Can you verify, using these instructions:

    https://www.dropbox.com/help/89/en

if your Dropbox folder is located at:

    /Users/(yourusername)/Dropbox

If it is located there, can you try changing it to a different location on your computer (to within your Documents folder, for example), then try disabling and re-enabling Dropbox syncing again via File -> Syncing in Moneydance? You should be asked to give Moneydance permissions to access your Dropbox folder and the File -> Syncing window should say "Connected as: (Your Name)", rather than the location of the folder on your computer.

If it isn't located there, then can you check to see if you have a folder named Dropbox in your Home folder? On Mac OS X that'll be:

    /Users/(yourusername)/Dropbox

and on Windows Vista and above it'll be:

    C:\Users\\(yourusername)\\Dropbox

If that's not your Dropbox folder, can you either rename it or delete it (if it doesn't contain any of your data), then try disabling and re-enabling Dropbox syncing as I described above and see if that works for you?
