syncing between Mac and iPhone stopped working

I've been using Moneydance 2014.5 for Mac and its corresponding iPhone app for a long time, and it's always worked great. I recently upgraded to a newer MacBook Pro and migrated Moneydance over to the new computer. It migrated fine and is using all my data with no problem. However, I've noticed that my laptop and app have stopped syncing with each other, even though the app tells me that it is syncing. I didn't make any change to my Dropbox account or data, so I'm not sure why the two programs all of a sudden stopped talking to each other.

I expect you'll find that the dropbox sync is the problem here.
I resolved exactly the same problem by first stopping the sync program in Moneydance on the PC and then deleting the dropbox folder <.moneydancesync> on the PC.
I restarted Moneydance on the PC and re-enabled syncing via Dropbox.
This created a new .moneydancesync folder in Dropbox and my iPad IOS program then synced perfectly with the PC.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to is having to go through the process every time I want to properly sync the systems. This needs a permanent fix.

    Hi Mike,

Can you try disabling Dropbox syncing by going to File -> Syncing in Moneydance, then close Moneydance and, using the Dropbox app or website interface, delete the:

    .moneydancesync

folder in your Dropbox folder (as Martin suggested above), then re-open Moneydance and re-enable Dropbox syncing, then disconnect from Dropbox syncing on your mobile device and re-connect and see if that fixes the syncing issue that you're having?

Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me with any questions about this process!

My Moneydance for Macbook Pro and iphone have stopped syncing again. I tried turning off and on sync, and also tried deleting the .moneydance file from Dropbox. When I try to turn off and on syncing with my mobile app, I get "Select file to sync" with that forever spinning wheel.

I'm not sure what to do next.

    Oh , I'm running v 2021 (3032) on my laptop.

Now what's happening is I can't even get out of the Sync Options screen on my iphone app. I select icloud and it says no syned files were found, and when I select Dropbox, it connects to my username, but searches indefinitely for a file to sync with. So my app is not completely unuseable.

Start with Mac. Check it says sync Dropbox and then go to help/console and post log here.

I prefer Dropbox folders. What are you using?

I changed to iCloud syncing and it's not working between my iOS devices and my Mac. As an experiment I entered a transaction on my iPad and my iPhone updated with the new transaction. However, my Mac has not. If I enter a transaction on my Mac neither of my iOS devices will see it after they sync. I'm using MD 2022.5 (4091).

    Very frustrating.

I just Disconnected my iPad from iCloud syncing, then opened MD on my Mac and used Toolbox to check the sync location. I saw 2 folders inside the Moneydance folder. One dated 2 days ago and 1 dated just now. Is it normal to have 2 folders? Then, I returned to my iPad and pressed iCloud sync. MD found 2 files, neither of which had today's date. How can this be fixed?

One dataset with sync only needs 1 folder... Hence you have more than one dataset syncing (or you reset the uuid somehow, or you restored)...

Take a peek inside.. Open these files with a txt editor (DONT CHANGE THEM).
    mdsyncinfo.txt
    tiksync_info.txt
they will tell you about the file being sync'd

Basically you can delete the folder NOT being used....

I looked at the files and mdsynchinfo.txt had the correct dataset name but the date was from 2 days ago and I’ve entered several transactions since then. Tiksync_info.txt had the correct path for the dataset.

I opened the hidden Moneydance folder on my iCloud Drive and watched what happened when I opened MD. No sync was done when opening the app, nor when I changed a txn. When I quit the app it showed that the main folder had been modified, the v3 folder had been modified, and that a mdtxn file had been modified. No other file or folder changed. The mdsyncinfo.txt file still has a modification date of 8/18.

Anyway to get this working again?

There are lots of reports of iCloud sync stopping working. Sorry, it needs IK support to look further.
