iPad app sync with Mac

I was able to get the initial sync between the iPad app and my Mac to work by changing my Mac's firewall settings as suggested in the FAQs (uncheck "Block All Incoming Connections" and add Moneydance to the list with the setting "Allow Incoming Transactions"). However, I was never able to get subsequent syncs to occur. I tried starting the desktop app with the iPad app running, and vice versa. Ultimately, I had to completely turn off the Mac firewall entirely, and only then did it sync (so it doesn't appear to be a router problem). Is this the expected behavior? Does anyone have syncs (after the initial sync) working on a Mac without completely disabling the Mac firewall? Could the fact that I'm running a standard user account (and not an administrator account) be affecting this? I noticed that, every time I start MD now on the desktop, I have to enter an administrator name and password to allow incoming connections, even though I set it in the Security preference pan.

    Hi John

I am glad to see you back on the forum.

I checked in with Sean about this and he tells me "The syncing involves a connection from desktopMD to iphoneMD, not the other way around. Even with the firewall on, it works for me " He goes on to ask if you are using one of the early betas of the iphone app.

One other thing you could try is to re-download MD from our main download page. The latest version is signed so that the mac firewall should deal with it properly.

    Sincerely
    Ben Spencer

Your second suggestion seemed to fix the problem. I re-downloaded the desktop app from the website, and now it syncs when I launch the iPad app. I'll keep my eyes open for any further issues, but for now it looks good. Thanks!
