Cannot get Desktop App to see iPhone
Hey all,
First off, I am a technical person (deal with computers on a daily basis)....but of course that does not mean I don't make mistakes or forget stuff sometimes. :)
I simply cannot get the Moneydance Network Sync extension to see my iPhone. And yes, I have read the troubleshooting guide :)
Some info:
Windows 7 (64-bit, not sure if that matters)
Moneydance 2010r3
Network Sync extension build 9
iPhone 4 (OS 4.01)
I am running my own wireless network at home with 192.168.3.x, 255.255.255.0 subnet.
I can ping between my desktop and my iPhone.
I have even totally disabled the Windows Firewall.
Still the Network Sync ext does not see my iPhone. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
ken
EDIT: one more thing. Since I told the iPhone app to sync, it is not stuck on the white sync screen (the one that shows the log hex code), and I cannot get out of that screen (e.g., no "back" button).

Kit,
I found some instructions on running a command prompt on a mac here. You run the command prompt on your computer, and then run the app Ben listed to make sure that the ip addresses meet the criteria he detailed. I'm sorry this syncing method is not working for you yet, and we are working on the new and improved method.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Any Update to this problem?
33 Posted by Sam on 12 Dec, 2010 03:27 AM
I have an iPhone and an iPad. I was previously able to sync both to my mac desktop. The iPhone still syncs but the iPad has stopped since 4th nov ( well before the OS4.2 update). Both devices are now running 4.2.
I have rebooted the iPad, when that did not work, uninstalled the app on the iPad, downloaded again in the app store, reinstalled, downloaded a new version of the network sync extension, removed the old iPad device link but now it says that there are no devices to find ( the iPad). Through all of this the iPhone syncs fine.
When I start the reinstalled app on the iPad, i now get a white screen with 4 rows of letters in 3 blocks of 4 and then below this an instruction to sync and add the device.

I too am technical and have the same configuration:
- Windows 7 x64 - iPhone 4.2.1 - Ping + Telnet works great - Bonjour service working/started - Tried all kinds of permission elevation and it doesn't help
When I press the Add device it looks like nothing is working and it immediately states:
"No device found"
Gave up trying to migrate from MS Money, since it entitles a lot of work and I need to justify it somehow.
iPhone syncing, better cash-flow predictions, easier migration path from Money would encourage me to migrate.
(Checked out Quicken 2011 import and it was awesome, almost no work at all. BUT they don't support Unicode languages!)
Hope you'll get it solved.

Hi,
Unable to sync my iPhone app with desktop at all after three attempts to open the app. Here's the information (I m not a technical savy):

Settings Folder: /Users/amyhile/.moneydance
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.5 x86_64
Java: 1.6.0_22 (Apple Inc.)
setStatus(There are no accounts to be downloaded, -1.0)
setStatus(Updater: You have the latest version of Moneydance, 0.0)

This problem goes back to July of last year (at least) and I don’t see any resolution. In fact the last update to Moneydance that I can find is a May 18 2010 beta. Is there a newer version available?

Hey all,
I know this issue is frustrating, and we've narrowed down the likely causes. We're currently working on a new sync method which will use Dropbox, and should resolve the syncing issues. We'll absolutely post on on our blog when it's available.
The most current build of Moneydance is 2010(r3) 751, which you can download here. We're working on a new preview build, and if you have installed the Moneydance updater extension with "preview" selected you'll be automatically asked to update when this is available.
Again, I'm sorry for the sync issue. It's been tough to pin down, but we are working on an alternative.

Kit,
We're hard at work wrapping up Moneydance 2011, and then we'll be pointing our efforts toward the iphone app. We'll definitely post both on the forums and on our blog when the update and new sync methods are available.

I've found that, as with several other iPhone apps, it helps to turn off Bluetooth temporarily while synching MoneyDance from Mac to iPhone. I'm still pretty new to MoneyDance, but this has worked well for me. HTH.

I don’t have Bluetooth turned on but thanks for the idea.

I'm realizing that I didn't post my personal sync workaround on this thread, so I'm doing so in the hopes that it might help some of you. It's what I have to do every time I sync, but it works flawlessly when I follow this routine.
I am not certain why this works, and we are working on a new syncing method which we expect will be much simpler and more consistent. Please let me know if this makes the sync work for you, if not we'll move on to the other troubleshooting possibilities.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thanks for working on a new solution for the iPhone connectivity. I am eagerly waiting since I was never able to sync find the device.

Hi all,
Another sync thing I'm realizing isn't in this thread- device names containing an apostrophe are (sometimes) currently problematic for setting up the initial sync. If you're having problems setting up the connection between your device and Moneydance, try renaming your device and it might help. I personally needed to do this when setting up the connection between my iPhone 4 and Moneydance. Hope this helps some of you,

I just encountered the syncing issue with my iPhone 4 running OS4. I discovered that removing MD from the Multitasking bar, and then relaunching MD on my iPhone, it will sync.

The discussion has been started for almost a year. I have both MoneyDance for iPhone and Handy Bank for Android. They both have problem to synchronize with the desktop MoneyDance. Sometimes they work but most of times they did not locate the phone. The update of synchronization is highly anticipated since this issue has been here for year.
