First off, I am a technical person (deal with computers on a daily basis)....but of course that does not mean I don't make mistakes or forget stuff sometimes. :)

I simply cannot get the Moneydance Network Sync extension to see my iPhone. And yes, I have read the troubleshooting guide :)

Some info:
Windows 7 (64-bit, not sure if that matters)
Moneydance 2010r3
Network Sync extension build 9
iPhone 4 (OS 4.01)
I am running my own wireless network at home with 192.168.3.x, 255.255.255.0 subnet.
I can ping between my desktop and my iPhone.
I have even totally disabled the Windows Firewall.

Still the Network Sync ext does not see my iPhone. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
ken

EDIT: one more thing. Since I told the iPhone app to sync, it is not stuck on the white sync screen (the one that shows the log hex code), and I cannot get out of that screen (e.g., no "back" button).

Kentag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/24209582010-08-03T19:02:35Z2010-08-03T19:02:38ZCannot get Desktop App to see iPhone

Anybody out there? :-)

Some wifi routers block certain types of traffic even on the local network. If so I recommend that you open ports 5353 and 5354 on your router.

Until the iPhone has been connected to the net sync extension at least once all will show you is initial screen with the access code.

I realize that you have read the trouble shooting guide, please confirm that you mean this guide:

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, that is the guide I read. FYI.

My wireless firewall has a rule that allows ANY traffic to ANY ip in the
192.168.3.1 - 192.168.3.255 range.

My iphone is 191.168.3.125 (on Wifi) and my computer is 192.168.3.80.

I tried an Ad Hoc network served up by my laptop, had my iPhone join that.
But still no go.

Is there a log anywhere (on the PC or iphone) that we can take a look at?

Thanks again,

If you cannot get the connection to occur on an adhoc computer to computer wifi network there must be something on your desktop that is either blocking the bonjour discovery packets or routing them to a different network. I have tested the iphone app connecting to a fresh installation of Windows 7 without a personal firewall and the connection was established as it should be.

Please bring up a windows command window and enter the following command without the quotes

Looks like I might have multiple versions of java installed. Could that
Sorry I don’t understand the following directions as to how to do this:

Failing that check the ipaddress and netmask of both you ipod touch and you pc. To get this info from you iPhone install a free app called "ipconfig". To get this info from your PC run a command prompt and enter "ipconfig /all" without the quotes on a mac the command is "ifconfig". In most networks the netmask will be 255.255.255.0. This need to be the same on you PC and your iphone. In most networks the ipaddress needs to have the first 3 segments be the same with only the last segment being different.<<

kittag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/24209582010-11-11T05:27:11Z2010-11-11T05:27:12ZCannot get Desktop App to see iPhone

Sorry, I’m new to this forum. I've rarely had to use support ( a good thing I guess). Support does seem haphazard esp in a situation with the iphone app where big interest could have been anticipated.

Moneydance people a suggestion: for future feature adds ons, road mapping etc, why not use your user base to canvass opinion on what people see as desirable next version enhancements. A simple on line survey could give a lot of good data for the product management and marketing people (person?)

There are some routers that do not work correctly with the bonjour protocol. Both dropbox and 1password are web services which are not using the bonjour protocol on the local network for service discovery. We are working on a new version of the extension that will not this protocol which we hope will resolve all of these synchronization issues.

an instruction to sync and add the device.

Samtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/24209582010-12-17T15:43:29Z2010-12-17T15:43:30ZCannot get Desktop App to see iPhone

I too am technical and have the same configuration:
- Windows 7 x64 - iPhone 4.2.1 - Ping + Telnet works great -
Bonjour service working/started - Tried all kinds of permission
elevation and it doesn't help

When I press the Add device it looks like nothing is working and
it immediately states:
"No device found"

Gave up trying to migrate from MS Money, since it entitles a lot
of work and I need to justify it somehow.
iPhone syncing, better cash-flow predictions, easier migration path
from Money would encourage me to migrate.
(Checked out Quicken 2011 import and it was awesome, almost no work
at all. BUT they don't support Unicode languages!)

Hope you'll get it solved.

galrozovtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/24209582010-12-20T03:52:11Z2010-12-20T03:52:12ZCannot get Desktop App to see iPhone

Hi,

I know this issue is frustrating, and we've narrowed down the
likely causes. We're currently working on a new sync method which
will use Dropbox, and should resolve the syncing issues. We'll
absolutely post on on our
blog when it's available.

The most current build of Moneydance is 2010(r3) 751, which you
can download here. We're
working on a new preview build, and if you have installed the
Moneydance updater extension with "preview" selected you'll be
automatically asked to update when this is available.

Again, I'm sorry for the sync issue. It's been tough to pin
down, but we are working on an alternative.

turn off Bluetooth temporarily while synching MoneyDance from Mac
to iPhone. I'm still pretty new to MoneyDance, but this has worked
well for me. HTH.

sw.foster1tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/24209582011-04-13T04:07:54Z2011-04-13T04:07:54ZCannot get Desktop App to see iPhone

I don’t have Bluetooth turned on but thanks for the

this thread, so I'm doing so in the hopes that it might help some
of you. It's what I have to do every time I sync, but it works
flawlessly when I follow this routine.

Open the Moneydance desktop program

Open the Moneydance app on your device

Close the Moneydance app on your device

Open the Moneydance app on your device and wait for about 30
seconds and the sync should occur.

I am not certain why this works, and we are working on a new
syncing method which we expect will be much simpler and more
consistent. Please let me know if this makes the sync work for you,
if not we'll move on to the other troubleshooting
possibilities.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Another sync thing I'm realizing isn't in this thread- device
names containing an apostrophe are (sometimes) currently
problematic for setting up the initial sync. If you're having
problems setting up the connection between your device and
Moneydance, try renaming your device and it might help. I
personally needed to do this when setting up the connection between
my iPhone 4 and Moneydance. Hope this helps some of you,

I have both
MoneyDance for iPhone and Handy Bank for Android. They both have
problem to synchronize with the desktop MoneyDance. Sometimes they
work but most of times they did not locate the phone. The update of
synchronization is highly anticipated since this issue has been
here for year.

angler
