How should I manage Daily Build program file?

I have been using the daily build Beta of MD 2011 since it has some features and improvements that I like. And I'm willing to report back, though I haven't run into problems. I am running on Mac OS 10.6.7.

What is the best way to have the Beta be the "current" application, but not lose MD2010 757? I have kept both on my Mac, and control which is running by starting from the app. But it appears that my Mac wants to revert back to MD2010 for opening my .ofx downloads, and I have to force it to go to the Beta. And just today, those downloads said there was a problem and wouldn't open. I must have done something, or else the daily build from 4/16 has a bug. I Trashed the Beta and put MD 2010 back in the Applications Folder [I had moved it to Downloads Folder], and now it seems to work OK again. But I'd like to return to the Beta. Is there a trick to doing this so that my Mac won't be confused about what app I want to be using?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Each file type can be associated with one and only one particular application. You can change which application you want to associate a particular file type with by following the instructions on the following page:
    http://osxdaily.com/2009/10/25/change-file-associations-in-mac-os-x/

If you want the ofx files to open with MD2011 preview you need to associate them with that application.

Thanks, Ben. I kind of knew that, but forgot.

Is there a problem with having both apps in the Application Folder and, for example, naming one Moneydance 2010 and the other Moneydance 2011, just to keep my "archive" 2010 version right at hand? I know I can download it any time I need it, but somehow it seems like I should keep the regular app on my computer somewhere.

    Hi Dave,

It shouldn't be a problem. Of course, you should be sure to have regular backups just in case you do run into trouble.

I have MD set up to keep the last 10 automatic daily backups, so I think I'm good!
