Report Writer
@Mike Bray: Back in March last year, you posted a message regarding the re-write of the Report Writer extension. Just wondering how this is coming along? I used to use the Report Writer extension until it stopped working (when MD dropped support of JavaFX) and would love to be able to run my reports again.

Hi SteveH42 please download the version in
https://github.com/mrbray99/moneydanceproduction/tree/main/downloads. It
does not use JavaFX. I have also dropped the use of JasperReports as it
was too complicated and large. You can still create a database and run
Jasper Reports standalone.
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike,
Just tried to download the latest from your site - version 321506 as I have come across the issue of not being able to select accounts in the Data Selection group (which this version apparently fixes). However, when I try and install it into MD 5253 I get the following error:
There was an error loading the extension file for module: 'reportwriter
321506': java]angException: Unable to load extension with 10
'reportwriter 321506' due to missing metadata

that should be "extension with ID" and not "extension with 10"!

rename the file to reportwriter.mxt before installing

Did you rename the file to ReportWriter.mxt?

Doh! I forgot to do that! Thank you both, all working now.

Hi Mike
Is Report Writer OK with MD 2024.4(5233), Mac Sequoia latest? I have never used it and now it does not use Jasper Reports I wanted to take a look at it.
Cheers...

Hi Mike
When you say should, is there a potential problem before I give it a try?
Cheers…

The message just means that The Infinite Kind has not signed the extension.

I went ahead and then got this mesage and uninstalled. Is it safe to use, being unsigned?

It comes down to if you trust the developer.
Personally I have been using a number of Mike's extensions for years.

Please don't trust any extensions that result in that warning! Not only hasn't The Infinite Kind reviewed the source code to ensure it's not stealing or uploading your financial information, but you can't even verify that that extension actually came from Mike (and not, for example, somebody who hacked his github account).
The only reason Moneydance allows loading of unsigned extensions is so that developers can build extensions for their own use, or to build and test them before getting them signed for distribution to others.
Please do not trust your financial information to code that somebody else wrote and that hasn't been vetted and securely verified by TIK.
Thanks,
Sean

I hope this is ok with Mike, but I have access to his source code and have verified, built, and signed a version of the current extension code and uploaded it here: https://infinitekind.com/app/md/extensions/preview/reportwriter.mxt
Mike, please let me know if you'd prefer I remove this build, or if I should use a different version of the source.
Thanks,
Sean
