Cant load quote and rate update extension after moved MD 2017 to new win 11 computer
Have used MD for several years on win 10 PC and had functional quote extension working to update stock prices. Moved to new win 11 PC and successfully downloaded MD 2017 using purchase license. Restored all archived MD data. Tried to install quote and rate updater extension and could see download progress complete but no install for subsequent next step. Does not show up in Manage Extensions. Is this extension still working or is a paid upgrade to newer MD required to make it functional again. Used this feature regularly for stock current stock valuations. Thanks for any response you make.

Remembering the changes from 2017 to now is probably going to be a stretch for some of us :)
But as you said you had a functioning Win 10 PC and hopefully still have access to it, there is something you can try.
Underneath the .moneydance folder in your user folder, there is another folder named fmodules. In there is the Q & ER extension, if memory serves it is named yahooqt.mxt.
Copy this file to a location on your new machine that you can find later.
Then in Manage Extensions choose the option add from file that is at the bottom of the screen, navigate to where the file is and select it.
See if it loads and is workable.
Do not just place the mxt file in the new fmodules folder that will not work.

Thanks dwg for quick response. Understand your suggestion and will try. Had deactivated MS license on win 10 machine but will get it back running to extract the yahooqt.mx file you indicated. Will report success if works in coming days..

I am running Moneydance 2024.4(5253) on two Windows laptops, 10 and 11.
Q&ER install on both but has very limited capability. Most of the sources for retrieving prices no longer work. Just leaving for Exchange Rates from European Central Bank and Alpha Vantage. For security Prices just Alpha Vantage. For Alpha Vantage to work you need to obtain a free Key from them and even then you are limited to 25 calls per day.

You can then use the Extension Quote Loader to obtain Security prices and Exchange Rate.

Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post. If any securities return an error then post your base currency, the Ticker, full Security Name and last price you have and its traded currency or just post a screenshot of the Quote Loader windows after you click GET PRICES.

Thanks Derek for the full and helpful response. My past usage of the Quote loader was minimal and just to occasionally update current held stock values from Yahoo. After reinstalling Moneydance 2017 on new Win 11 PC, the Quote extension won't complete the download and allow installation as I originally noted. Have successfully downloaded yahooqt.mxt direct from Moneydance site for extensions. Still unable to get it installed in Moneydance using the Moneydance Manage Extension ADD from File option. Probably will decide to accept paid user option %50 discount and move to newest Moneydance version where hopefully a quote loader extension will work for my minimal needs. A final curious observation is that all of the available extensions shown in my old MD version, only CVS Importer, Quote and Exchange Rate Updater, and Stock Glance , do not successfully complete the download and reach the Install or Cancel screen. Have not yet tried dwg's suggestion to copy yahooqt.mxt from old win 10 pc that has been deactivated. I may but probably just upgrade MD and get functional Quote extension and move on.
I know the quote sites probably aren't always supportive of potentially high volume quote requests from third parties that generate no revenue for them.

Downloading the extension from the Moneydance site would not help, it is exactly the same file as you would get using the standard install option.
My feeling was you probably has an older version of Q & ER that was working with Moneydance 2017 and it was that version you needed

Thanks dwg for monitoring my inquiry. I may try to reactivate the old win10 PC and copy the yahooqt.mxt file being used successfully by MD 2017 as you suggested in your original reply. Probably just best that I pay for update to MD newest version where more recent quote extensions may work for my limited needs. Please consider this support inquiry well responded to and closed for now

Upgrading would be the easiest approach.
I would then suggest you look at the Quote Loader extension, it has a wider range of quote sources and more configuration options. It can work much like Q & ER but can also do more.
You could also extract the old Yahoo MXT file by connecting the disk up to another machine as the second drive and pulling it off that way.
