WARNING: unused split in investment txn

I am working on an extension to import investment transactions. Looking at the moneydance console window I see a continuous spew of "WARNING: unused split in investment txn".

It appears as though the warning itself is a bug? It looks like it is possible to trigger exclusively by editing transactions through the Moneydance UI (no extension required):
1. Go to the "Bank Register" view of an Investment account.
2. Create a bank transaction with several splits (e.g. 5; but I suspect 2 or more is sufficient).
3. Return to the investment "Register" view.
4. Observe WARNING spew in the console window.

I am curious what the meaning and consequences of this warning condition are?

It looks like it's probably safe to ignore? And probably does not necessarily indicate a bug in my own under-development extension?

If it is truly harmless, would it make sense to remove the warning in future versions?
