Inconsistent exchange rate update with Alphadvantage
Since updating to the new Q&ER updater (v1012) using Alphadvantage I've found that exchange rates are updated inconsistently:
1) some exchange rates fail to update
2) some updates are several days out of date
For example update of SGD to GBP took several runs today to finally update (3rd Feb), and when it did the most recent price was 29th Jan. USD to GBP updates but the price is for 31st Jan. This is not the first time this happened, I just spent a bit of time today to investigate.
This is not very helpful when you hold several currencies and exchange rates are quite volatile from week to a next.
I can't see much looking at errorlog.txt except a couple of:
Import error: skipping invalid line: "Information": "Please consider optimizing your API call frequency."
Import error: skipping invalid line: }
In each case this is associated with update of a security, which seems to update.
Digging in to this I realize that all currencies exchange rates are being updated. Is there someway to limit this without removing the currency from Moneydance?

Is anybody else experiencing the same problem? I just tested with v1015 and see the same issue.

I know Sean was trying to fix issue with currency exchange rates with the beta version of the Q & ER v1015. It seems from your experience there is more work to be done, or perhaps the issue is at the Alpha Vantage end.
I have stopped using the Q & ER, this includes v1015, as it returns so few results or sometimes even invalid prices on my UK/Irish/Luxenberg etc, domiciled funds. I am using a stand-alone program that was originally developed to help out users of MS Money when Microsoft stopped supporting that product. The developer has adapted it to work with Moneydance and is actively supporting the program. This program is very stable and the quotes very consistent. No strange prices. It has a lot of useful features. These include, obtaining prices from many stocks and fund quoted on different exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia. Along with security prices it can obtain exchange rates and import these into Moneydance at the same time. The program has the ability to convert quotes from one currency to another. Convert prices in Pence to Pounds, if required, for UK stocks and funds. More features in the pipeline. Provide a means for importing all this data into Moneydance.
If you want to try it see the PDF and the links it contains to the stand-alone program and Security Price Loader extension http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...
Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion derekent23, however I'm not sure if this will
help me.
Even though there is mention of exchange rates I don't see a way to just
get exchange rates or add to the pre-defined currencies. Am I missing
something?

Hi Adrian
It’s is possible to import a pre-defied list of currency exchange rates. Reference the PDF for detail.
In the programs “Symbol” window create a list, click UPDATE PRICES in “Quote Source Price” window right click, MD – Save CSV - STEP 1
In Moneydance use TOOL - CURRENCIES highlight subject currency, double click, EDIT and tick “Show on summary page”. Do this for each currency you want to import - STEP 2
Under EXTENSIONS start the “Security Price Loader”. CHOOSE FILE, first two dropdowns – Ticker_ISIN and Price, tick “Process Currencies” box, click LOAD DATA, then tick the boxes next to the currencies, click SAVE SELECTED DATA- STEP 3
Open a currency window TOOL -CURRENCIES highlight subject currency, double click and check update - RESULT
If you still have problem or just need more detail instructions, just post.
Hope this helps.

derekkent23,
Thanks - this helps and works! You're right it was in the PDF, however
your instructions were much clearer.
Cheers
Adrian

Hi Adrian
I am glad I was able to help and that the stand-alone program was able to provide you with what you needed.
