I like the product but as it appears both development and your site (namely the blog) have been dead since January I am curious as to whether you are even still in business...

We are very much in business (as the activity on this forum will attest). We are actively in development of both our new Iphone App that will be released very soon and Moneydance 2010 which will be released in the 4th quarter of this year in all likelihood (it won't be released later than that).

We will rejuvenate the blog again very soon as well.

    Sincerely,

    Brian

So MD 2009 is now pushed back far enough to be called MD 2010? Interesting to say the least.....

    Randy,

It's release date isn't any later than than what we've been projecting for the last several months, but we did realize it didn't make sense to continue calling it MD 2009 given it's 2nd half of the year release.

I don't need a new software release every year. The app is preforming exactly as I need it. I definitely don't need bloatware like Quicken or Microsoft Money.

This is the best Checkbook program that I have ever used. I highly recommend it.

If you need to institute a small periodic fee to stay in business, I hope you will do that. It would be a shame to lose such a valuable product, and growth in totally new business can be problematic, as we have seen in the general economy.

Yeah, seriously! I can't figure out why the Moneydance folks are so generous with the free upgrades. If I'm not mistaken, they are letting people who purchased the product as far back as 2004 (if not earlier) still upgrade to the latest version for free. That is almost unheard of in the realm of personal finance apps. At some point (five years? three years?), they need to start charging people to upgrade. Keep in mind that, unlike Quicken, this would not be a forced upgrade, because Moneydance never cripples the old versions.

Thanks for the update on MD2009 release, I've been holding back purchase waiting for it. No need to hold back now.!

This is seriously good software, neat, simple, does exactly what I need and appears to be the only one that works with my bank www.bankwest.com.au account exports with zero farting about with settings.

Quality product and I hope to be a very long term customer - Rich

You should really make an effort to keep the blog up to date, or get rid of it. There has been a fair bit of activity since January, but the lack of any activity in the blog makes Moneydance look dead.

When you do something noteworthy, post it!

When you hire someone, post it! When you institute new help forums, post it! When you put up a FAQ for Microsoft Money migration, post it!

It takes a leap of faith from your customers to trust a small software company with their finances. We want you to succeed.

When you do something noteworthy, post it!

    Hi Kelly

I agree the blog is an important way of communicating with our users. I have many things I plan to talk about on the blog and I also want to ensure that people get responses promptly on this forum. At the moment it feels a bit like a balancing act and I think we could do a much better job of putting more energy into the blog.

    Sincerely

I most certainly agree. Having just read the fora from Q**en for mac, and hearing that they will be releasing a crippled "upgrade" in 2010, I am seriously thinking about switching, and looking at MD as a key alternative. I'm nervous about small companies with the critical nature of financial data.

Moneydance is a great piece of software and hope its development continues. I've just imported 9 years of Microsoft Money data into it very successfully.

I hope other Microsoft Money consider purchasing this software rather than Quicken which would not import any of my Money data.

    Miles,

When you did your import from MSM, did you use our FAQ guide? Do you have any tips for other users doing the import or suggestions for how the guide could be added to or improved?

    Hi Suthee

We do not currently have plans for an android application. Though we are certainly not ruling this out. Getting the wrinkles smoothed out with the iphone application and getting it officially released is currently our priority. However much of the work on writing the iphone application would not need to be replicated for other mobile platforms. Android is definitely a very interesting platform. And we will seriously consider the possibility when we are in a position to put resources in that direction.

    Sincerely

I also have just switched from Quicken to MD and am impressed so far and looking forward to improvements in the new release. I had 13 years of quicken data to import and had no problems except with stocks, which I had to add the ticker symbols after the import. I used the online manual and frequently asked questions to help me along.

It really would be helpful to give a release date and description for MD 2010 and the I phone application. How can we recommend MD to friends if you do not tell us what is going on in some detail!!!

During our staff discussion today, our lead developer said

"The iphone app is ready. I'm now wading through the paperwork necessary to release it... starting with the government encryption export requirements"

It will be out very soon, but wading through government and Apple requirements will take a bit longer.
