MD plans for adding "Envelope Budgeting" feature
Does MD have plans to implement "Envelope Budgeting" in addition to, as an extension, or as a replacement for the current bugeting platform? If so, when is it expected? This would impact my decision to choose MD.
I've seen some discussions and a ticket for adding "Envelope Budgeting" dating back to before the 2008 release, and the 2010 release didn't end up having it either.
I am evaluating MD (2010r3 751) and YNAB to decide on which one to go with. YNAB is designed as a "Envelope Budget" and does a nice simple job at it. But, I like so many of the MD features and this great online support system, that I'd go with MD in an instant, except that I really want the effective budgeting provided by the "Envelope" method.
Please tell me "Envelope Budgeting" is due to release soon, so I can go with MD and get all that I need in your software. I could live with the current release for a while if I new the "Envelope Budgeting" would be available in the near future.

Envelope budgeting is something we have toyed with for quite a while now and I am afraid that we do not have any immediate plans to implement it.
I am sorry that this does not meet your needs.

Would you be interested in trying to use the Budget Bars or Categories as a modified Envelope Budgeting system? Neither would be a true Envelope Budget but may accomplish some of the things you would be looking for. If so, post back and I can give you some directions on how to do this.

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd drop in a link to another thread on envelope budgeting.

Is there a function within Moneydance that takes 2011 data and creates a draft 2012 budget with monthly intervals? If not, what is the most direct way to create a 2012 budget from 2011 data. Hand entry? The form of budget is traditional, not envelope.

Frank,
The easiest way to do this would be to go to Tools->Budget Manager, select New, then click the Calculate button in the window which appears. You can find more information on calculating budgets in the Moneydance 2011 user guide here.
Thanks for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thanks, Angie
How do i get the budget ledger that process generated into a spread sheet presentation similar to the Income and Expenses report by month for 2011?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but if you want to see your 2012 budget by month use the Budget Report (the one under Reports & Graphs) select "custom dates" and put in 1/1/2012 and 12/31/2012 as your start and end dates and subtotal by month (click on 'don't subtotal' to get the drop down options). You can't run an I&E report without actuals for 2012.

Thank. you, and Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
A reason I bought Moneydance instead of IBank is that, in my tests, support response never rests and is on target. You've verified this.
This does not present by category and subcategory to mimic an Income and Expense report. What I'd like to do is do a projected Income and Expense report for 2012 based upon 2011 activity, then edit the 2012 projected data to produce a budget that appears like a 2011 Income and Expense report, but with projected and my edited 2012 numbers.
Going forward, I'd like a 2012 Expense report each month showing budget v actual.

It appears the posted link to the user guide is invalid - if you remove the 2011 from the end of the URL it downloads a PDF.

Thanks.
I have the May, 2011 user guide from an earlier download. After reviewing it I was not able to produce the type of report I want so I came to this discussion. I may be missing something simple.
