quite happy with the new experimental UI, and we hope our users

<p>The only way to know if you're really running the most recent
release of moneydance is to iteratively check the "preview" release
folder structure by incrementing the last number in this URL until
you receive a 404 error - the last folder that loads contains the
most recent version (user friendly, I know):</p>
<p><a href=
"http://moneydance.com/preview/752/">http://moneydance.com/preview/752/</a></p>
<p>As of Jan. 21, 2011, build 752 is the most recent. Heck, as of
July 16, 2010, build 752 was the most recent.</p></div>Joshtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/41829642011-01-21T23:59:42Z2017-12-03T14:49:55ZStill in Business?<div><p>Josh,</p>
<p>That is not the most intuitive or user friendly method to determine the latest version nor does it provide a log of changes, additions or fixes.</p></div>Tony Ktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/41829642011-01-22T00:10:11Z2011-01-22T00:10:11ZStill in Business?<div><p>Hi Josh,<br>

preview versions available in the /preview/ folder of the
moneydance.com domain, however. I saw build 751 referenced in a
forum post addressing some problem, then later got curious and
incremented the URL to /752/. Now I just periodically check for
/753/ to see if a quiet upgrade has been pushed out or not.</p>
<p>@Tony: You should check the knob on your sarcasm detector, and
make sure it's set to at least 3 out of 10. If a frequent user of
internet forums, I would suggest going as high as 6 or 7 (be aware,
too high a sensitivity to sarcasm can have negative real-world
consequences with spouses and/or significant others).</p></div>Joshtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/41829642011-01-28T02:38:58Z2017-12-03T14:49:55ZStill in Business?<div><p>@Josh,</p>
<p>Sarcasm knob was not set (turned off). Being a developer, it really serves a purpose for users to easily see a change log, based on version and to easily find both the current shipping version and the installed version.</p>
<p>Installed is easy, just get to the About menu dialog. But the change log does not exist and having users comb through a list of bugs is not the same thing. Most other software companies keep track of issues fixed, new functionality introduced and issues outstanding. It is called Release Notes.</p>
<p>If that comes across as sarcasm, then I need a repair on my communication filter. :)</p></div>Tony Ktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/41829642011-01-28T02:57:50Z2011-01-28T02:57:50ZStill in Business?<div><p>Hi Josh,<br>

<p>Thanks for your quick response Jessica! Build 755 fixed the
problem.</p>
<p>Why isn't the Updater extension recognizing build 755? I have it

<p>The 755 build is just a temporary build that we've put out
specifically to fix this certificate issue. Since it doesn't
contain any of the other bug fixes we've been working on, we didn't
want to release it through the regular update system. We hope to
have a full update out shortly, which you should see come through
the updater.</p>

see a "check for updates" button under the "help" menu. This should
be an integrated feature of the program, not a 3rd-party add-on for
the reasons explained below:</p>
<p><em>3rd party add-on</em>: I write an add-on for MD and send it
to the site for general download. It checks the latest and greatest
MD versions and downloads them as they are available. My add-on
also checks my website for updated versions of itself. Once it is
established, I upload an updated version to my website which is now
downloaded by all users and which now sends me all of your log-in
details for your bank/savings/investments</p>
<p><em>Integrated feature</em>: The code is now controlled by the
program developers, and not by some fly-by-night. Sure, it's open
to the same risks and hazards, but hey! we've already downloaded
the software and are using it, and nothing bad has happened
(yet!)</p>

<p>I think there is some misunderstanding about the way Moneydance
extensions work.</p>
<p>The Moneydance updater extension is not a 3 party extension it
is a 1st party extension written by the same people who wrote
Moneydance.</p>
<p>The updater extension, along with all the others that are
installed "from the internet", are stored on and downloaded from
the Moneydance servers.</p>
<p>If a 3rd party wants to write an extension for Moneydance 3rd
party must submit all of the source code for the extension to the
Moneydance developers. The developers will review the code for the
extension to make sure it isn't doing anything malicious. They then
compile it with a digital signature. If you try to install an
extension that does not have a digital signature you will be warned
that you are taking a significant risk and have to confirm that you
are willing to take that risk.</p>

<p>Build 756 is not a new preview build of Moneydance. It is build
751 plus a new package of security certificates for making direct
OFX connections. We also back ported a fix for the highly annoying
mouse wheel bug related to the category selector because so many
people wanted it. 756 does not contain any of the new feature or
other bug fixes that have been implemented since 751.</p>
<p>It was necessary to make this release for a relatively small
number of users who could no longer connect to their banks because
the banks had changed their security certificates.</p>
<p>We chose not to make this a preview release because we know
there are quite a number of people who are waiting patiently for
the actual preview release and we did not want to disappoint

<p>In Moneydance terms, a preview is similar to a beta build. If
your updater is set to "stable" version it will not update when the
release is a preview build. We generally release several preview

daily use. Please let me know if I can be of further

What is so bad about using what was released in 2011?</p>
<p>If you're so much in a hurry to use the latest, then use the
following:<br>
<a href=

I am sorry to hear that you are frustrated by our reluctance to
commit to release dates. As we were re-writing the i-phone app,
time and time again new issues came up and we were forced to push
back the date and revise estimates, which generated much hard
feelings.<br>
It is unfortunate, but we have found that it is best not to set
dates for releases. This is not just a policy of the support staff
but is company wide. In other words it is not just a matter of
asking someone on the development team, as we will not be picking a
date until we are very very close to a finished and well test
update.<br>
That being said, there are lots of nice new upgrades and fixes
lined up currently for the next major release.<br>
I am sorry again that I cannot be more helpful.<br>
Please let us know if you have any further questions.<br>
