Bounty System for Moneydance features/extensions

So now that Intuit has told Mac Quicken users that they hate us and don't want our money anymore, Moneydance has a huge opportunity to expand and fill the need. Moneydance is the only app even remotely close to Quicken's functionality. As a developer, I expect I will be spending a fair amount of time adding some features I really need and want.

It would be nice if we had access to more of the code base than just the extension API... just sayin'. But it occurred to me that we the users could also really help push development along by offering bounties for features and extensions. If Moneydance could implement some sort of bounty system on it's site, users could join together to build a pool to pay bounties on new features.

There are some management/legal issues to work out for this but I'd really like to see this done. Quicken needs to die once and for all and Moneydance is the best positioned product to it.

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to implement this any time soon, and I'm not sure it would work as well on closed-source software as it does in the open source world. As it is, there are only three of us with access to make code changes, and we're all incredibly busy at the moment. I'm not sure a bounty system while actually cause us to change our priorities much, other than letting us know what people are really interested in seeing happen.

That said, I do miss the old voting system we used to have. it was much easier to see what tickets where the most popular. We sort of have that now, but I am interested in improving it. However, as I mentioned, it's a busy time for us right now. It is on my personal ToDo list, though, so hopefully I can get to it after a few other projects.

PS - Many of our extensions are actually open source. If you're interested in taking a look, they are available in our Google Code project here: http://code.google.com/p/moneydance/

Have you considered a developer program that would give a few of us deeper access? I have a lot of features I want to add but I am uncertain that the extensions framework will be sufficient.

Also, does the OS X interface use cocoa screens or just swing?

Moneydance actually used to be an open source application, but Sean closed it a while back because that model wasn't working for him. i don't think we're likely to take steps in that direction any time soon, though we are happy to work with folks developing thrid party applications and modules.

Regarding your second question: Just swing I believe.
