Yet I seem to have constant problems downloading stock prices, mostly from London but in two cases from NY. Many years ago, the system worked, but it stopped working, so I gave up on it and reverted to monthly manual updates. Then, a few weeks ago, I managed to get it working again for a few days, but now it is broken again.

There are four options in the options box: IEX Trading, Alphavantage, TD Ameritrade and Yahoo USA. These all seem to be US-centric options, with no possibility of selecting a UK source, even Yahoo UK.

I am probably missing something, but what is recommended for Moneydance users in the UK, ideally without a subscription, because, for my modest use, that wouldn't be an option.

mm.evanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-26T23:19:56Z2023-01-26T23:19:56ZStock updates

just a user - have you considered using the extension Quote Loader versus QER?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-27T08:10:00Z2023-01-27T08:10:00ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi mm.evans

Try the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION

It uses FT, so the London Stock Exchange is fully covered along with US exchanges. Another source available is Yahoo so it should cover all your needs.

For information on the features of this extension and how to use see post 332 at
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...

Download the PDF’s attached to post 332 and have a read.

To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.

The Quick Start Video is intended to give a quick overview so the user can see if Quite loader looks like it could work for them. The Short Video expands the user’s knowledge giving more detail. The Full Video goes even further but may be to wordy for some.
The PDF reinforces what’s leaned in the videos, provides step by step instructions, a must read and provide answers on how to handle less obvious issues some users may come across.

Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post. If any securities return a error then post the ticker, full Security Name and last price you have.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-27T08:33:07Z2023-01-27T08:33:07ZStock updates

Yahoo USA pulls quotes from around the world, it does not mean it only pulls US quotes but it means that it uses Yahoo's US servers.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-27T22:19:32Z2023-01-27T22:19:32ZStock updates

Thank you for the suggestion to use Quote Loader. Hi Michael

Don’t think you will be disappointed, any problems just post with the currency you work in, ticker, full Security Name and last price you have.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-28T11:55:49Z2023-01-28T12:04:31ZStock updates

Many thanks. I have Quote Loader up and running but have encountered some errors. All my stocks (except AAPL) are on LSE and are, therefore, in GBP. However, a few quotes (BLT, BP, NG, RB, RDSB) show incorrect, very low values. I note that in these instances, the Trade Currency is something other than GBP. I followed your instructions to set Exch Mod to LSE, but these stocks then return an error when I download prices.

Also, I cannot get AAPL to update, despite setting Exch Mod to NASDAQ, but that is not important at this stage. There is no value in the Trade Currency column, and I cannot discover how to set this to USD.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Apple added

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-28T16:04:34Z2023-01-28T16:39:50ZStock updates

Hi Derek,

I'm getting there. The download errors were essentially my fault because I hadn't updated the ticker symbols, and some major stocks (Shell, Reckitt) had changed recently. In two instances (Australian stocks), I got the correct figure by adding LSE to the Exchange Mod.

This just leaves Apple. I need the quote in USD (holdings in a USD investment account in MD). I have changed Exch Mod to NASDAQ, but the new price shows a red error. Note that APPL is set to US Dollar in Securities Tools.

All stocks other than Apple are in GBP.

mm.evanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-28T17:27:48Z2023-01-28T17:27:48ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Michael

For Apple Inc take a look at the screen shot I posted before at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/moneydance-developme...

The Ticker is AAPL no Exch Mod required. Note the US exchange rate is also required as shown in screen shot.

As Apple is traded in US dollars you will need to ensure you are first retrieving the Exchange Rate for US currency. Follow the process on page 5 of my PDF at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...

Section:
Procedure if one or more Securities or Quotes are not in Moneydance’s Base Currency.

This is importance as it ensures the Quote Loader Retrieved Price returned in US Dollars is correctly converted into British Pounds.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-28T17:58:13Z2023-01-28T18:05:44ZStock updates

Many thanks, Derek. I have followed the procedure as outlined in your PDF and Apple is still not downloading. See the attached screenshot. The Trade Currency field remains blank after a price update.

Note that the Last Price value of $142.65 was entered manually by me on Friday. In your example, the price is shown in GBP while the trade currency is USD.

Sorry if I'm being dense on this one.

Hi Michael

You have the wrong ticker for Apple Inc its AAPL NOT APPL

Hope that helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-01-28T19:30:53Z2023-01-28T19:32:16ZStock updates

Ah! Well, that certainly could have something to do with it. All ok now, I have everything updating correctly. I just need to set the schedule and I should be fine.

Thank you so much for your patience and for spotting the obvious mistake. I can't blame it on dyslexia, just an oversight when entering Apple into Moneydance all those years ago. No wonder it would never update automatically...

I am looking forward to using Quote Loader.

Hi Michael

Really glad I was able to help and hope Quote Loader continues to work well for you.

I've been quiet for a couple of weeks because I got Quote Loader to work on downloading prices and updating MoneyDance. However, the autorun feature isn't working. As you will see from the attached screenshot, the Next Run is always correct -- the next day -- but the Last Run is always 00/00/0000. I've tried resetting the parameters and resetting the autorun, but nothing works.

Do you have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

mm.evanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-10T19:10:50Z2023-02-10T19:10:50ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mike.

After you made the setting as shown in the screen shot did you click RESET AUTO RUN.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-10T19:16:00Z2023-02-10T19:16:00ZStock updates

Thanks for coming back so quickly Derek. Hi Mike.

Next question, at 23:00 is Moneydance running?

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-10T19:42:34Z2023-02-13T16:49:53ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mike.

Just ran a test.
Settings as your screen shot.
Clicked RESET AUTO RUN.
Closed Quote Loader but left Moneydance running.
Changed the time on my computer to 22:59
In one minute noted that in the status line at bottom of Moneydance Quote Loader was retrieving prices.
Opened Quote Loader, prices had been retrieved and saved and next run date now 11/02/2023.
Quote Loader worked as expected,

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-10T22:33:22Z2023-02-10T22:33:22ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mike.

Just to add I ran the test on Windows 11 and Linux Feren, Moneydance 2022.6(4097) and Quote Loader 3058.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-13T15:13:49Z2023-02-13T16:20:34ZStock updates

Hi Derek,

Apologies for not responding. I was away, and I will now do some experiments by adjusting the run time and watching to see what happens. After a couple of manual updates today, I see that the Last Run field is populated with today's date, and the next run is showing as tomorrow.

I note that after a manual update, I must select all lines and save selected values to get the prices into MoneyDance. Should this happen automatically on an autorun or is manual intervention always necessary?

I am using MacOS (latest version), Moneydance 2022.6 (4097) and QL 3058.

mm.evanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-13T16:51:19Z2023-02-13T16:51:19ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mike.

When you use autorun the process is automatic. All lines that retrieve a price are selected and saved automatically; no manual intervention is required.
The only requirement is that at the due time Moneydance is running and Quote Loader is not.
At the due time if you look at the Moneydance status line at the bottom of the Moneydance window you will see Quote Loader retrieving prices.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-13T17:48:22Z2023-02-13T17:48:22ZStock updates

...The only requirement is that at the due time, Moneydance is running, and Quote Loader is not.

Herein lies the problem. I had not left Moneydance running. For some reason, I assumed this would run in the background, but, now you emphasise it, the logic is there. I will test it out tonight.

Mike

mm.evanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577102822023-02-13T22:08:51Z2023-02-13T22:08:51ZStock updates

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mike.

If on opening Moneydance it is detected you have missed a due date/time due to say Moneydance not running at that due date/time the update will start. A full explanation of how Autorun operates is given in the PDF attached to post 332 at

I have tested the autorun over two days, and it now seems to be working — providing, as you say, Moneydance is left running and Quote Loader is NOT open. I've set it to run at 11 pm to catch the final US prices, and so far, all is well. Thank you for being so helpful on this.
