Quoteloader 3201 Override Parameter query

Hi
It’s great to see the latest version of QuoteLoader is available and it looks fabulous. One question, there is a parameter which says “Override Moneydance Current Prices with refreshed prices”. I don’t get it - surely that would be what I would want to do by default to replace the update the prices so my investments have the latest price data. But by default this setting is not ticked so it must mean something else so I would love some advice what would happen if it is/isn’t ticked?

Thanks

    Hi Rich W

Just for the record the tick box on the Parameter tab I think you are referring to is labelled “Update Moneydance Current Price” not “Override Moneydance Current Prices with refreshed prices” in Quote Loader build 3201.

I agree with you for me I would always tick the “Update Moneydance Current Price” box to ensure the Current Price is updated to the last Dated Trade Price obtained by Quote Loader.

The two scenarios created by ticking or not ticking the box are outlined on Page 14 of my PDF Update PDF Quote Loader V2 Extension Moneydance 2019 to 2022 to V11.2 attached to post 51 at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/7595-quote-loader-version-2/page/2#comment_58379202

However the Quote Loader developer Mike Bray chouse the make box not ticked the default.

Thanks for the clarification Derek - Yes you are correct it is "Update MoneyDance Current Price" - I was trying to do it from memory as I had closed down the tool - doh!.
It would be great if the PDF link was somehow attached to a Help on the Tool or in the InfiniteKind Extensions Help section for QL as there is lots of great information in there.

So to ty to get this straight in my head can I go with an example that makes sense to me.

    1) I manually add a new trade in the MD Investment Account register for a Security on the 14th May with a Price of £1.00 which is a Sunday. The Row is therefore applied to the Security History as normal with this date and price and becomes Current Date/Price.
    2) I run QL which finds the last Trade date was Friday 12th May for this Security with a Price of £2.00 and adds that row, so there are now 2 days in the History - 12th May (£2.00) and 14th May (£1.00)
    3) Without the Parameter ticked, the row for the 12th May is added to the history as £2.00, but the latest date for the Security is not updated to £2.00 therefore the 14th May still shows £1.00.
    4) With the Parameter ticked, both rows 12th May and 14th May will show £2.00 as the Currently Price is updated with the date captured from point 2)

Question - If QL finds a Price of £2.00 for the 14th May as a Trade - will it always update the Price for that Day to £2.00 if it already exists or is that only if the parameter is ticked, which is what I assume this is saying i.e. without ticking the parameter it will stay as £1.00 as it already exists - ARE YOU ABLE TO CONFIEM THIS AS WELL PLEASE?

** I assume the actual trade in the Register of the Investment Account will not have its Price updated to £1.00 on the date I entered it into MD -i.e14th May when QL updates the Prices with the parameter ticked **

Can you please check that my assertion which hopefully makes sense is correct.

    Thank you

    Hi Rich W

I did ask Sean the Moneydance Developer to create a section in the Knowledge Base for Quote Loader and allow me access to it so I could Maintain the PDF’s, but he said it would be difficult so access to the latest PDF’s is via the Discussion headed Quote Loader Version 2 in the Investment section.
However if you are running Quote Loader click HELP then DOWNLOAD and along with other items you can see the PDF’s which you can downloaded. Warning there may be from time to time beta versions of Quote Loader builds that are under test or have not yet been release for signing by Moneydance.

The thing to remember is that the tick box Update Moneydance Current Price only affect the Current Price in the Security Price History window not any Dated Prices that are there.
If a Security Current Price is manually changed the Current date assumes the date of the change as displayed under TOOLS - SECURITIES. If the “Trade Date” obtained by Quote Loader precedes the Current Price date the Current Price is not updated to match the new Dated Price. The last Dated Price and the Current Price will be different. However, by ticking the “Update Moneydance Current Price” box on the Parameters tab the Current Price will be updated to the Quote Loader “New Price” regardless of the Current Price date which itself will be reset to the date of the last Dated Price.

    Your questions:
The following answers are based on the Current Price and its associated Dated Price having been just manually updated and assuming I have understood your questions correctly.
    1) I manually add a new trade in the MD Investment Account register for a Security on the 14th May with a Price of £1.00 which is a Sunday. The Row is therefore applied to the Security History as normal with this date and price and becomes Current Date/Price.
    DK
I assume in the Security History window you manually added a new price to the Current Price field and used NEW to create a Dated Price then yes the above is correct.

    2) I run QL which finds the last Trade date was Friday 12th May for this Security with a Price of £2.00 and adds that row, so there are now 2 days in the History - 12th May (£2.00) and 14th May (£1.00)
    DK
Correct, the Current Price changes to £2.00 but only if Update Moneydance Current Price is ticked otherwise it remains at £1.00

    3) Without the Parameter ticked, the row for the 12th May is added to the history as £2.00, but the latest date for the Security is not updated to £2.00 therefore the 14th May still shows £1.00.
    DK
Correct. The Dated price for the 14th May remains at £1.00 along with the Current Price.

    4) With the Parameter ticked, both rows 12th May and 14th May will show £2.00 as the Currently Price is updated with the date captured from point 2)
    DK
No. The Current Price and the Dated Price for the 12th May will be £2.00 but the price for the 14th May will remain untouched at £1.00 The tick box Update Moneydance Current Price only affect the Current Price in the Security Price History window.

Question - If QL finds a Price of £2.00 for the 14th May as a Trade - will it always update the Price for that Day to £2.00 if it already exists or is that only if the parameter is ticked, which is what I assume this is saying i.e. without ticking the parameter it will stay as £1.00 as it already exists - ARE YOU ABLE TO CONFIRM THIS AS WELL PLEASE?
    DK
The tick box Update Moneydance Current Price only affect the Current Price so if Quote Loader retrieves a dated Prices for the 14th May and it’s the last dated Price in the Security History window it will update the price for the 14th May regardless of tick box setting.

** I assume the actual trade in the Register of the Investment Account will not have its Price updated to £1.00 on the date I entered it into MD -i.e14th May when QL updates the Prices with the parameter ticked **
    DK
If you manually enter a Current Price into the Security History window and use NEW to add a Dated Price of the 14th it will be used in the investment Account as you have added new data over and above that provided by Quote Loader.

For me the best thing to do is always have the box ticked.

    Hope this helps.
