How do I fix XFERs in OFX from UK Natwest Bank

I use Natwest in the UK and in the OFX statements I download from them a transfer between two of my accounts get imported as two transactions in Moneydance, one in each account, one a debit, one a credit, but the two transactions are unlinked. So to properly reconcile I have to find each transaction, reclassify one of them as a transfer, and delete the other one. This can take hours for a complex statement.
I'm quite happy to write Python to fix up the OFX, but I can't figure out how the OFX should actually look.

Here's one of the XFERs (details changed of course)
<STMTTRN>
<TRNTYPE>XFER</TRNTYPE>
<DTPOSTED>20150209</DTPOSTED>
<TRNAMT>37.00</TRNAMT>
<FITID>201502090001</FITID>
<NAME>FROM A/C 64503076</NAME>
<MEMO>CALL REF.NO. 1944</MEMO>
</STMTTRN>

Do I add a BANKACCTTO with BANKID=sortcode, ACCTID=account number?

    Instead of deleting one of the transactions after the import you should performa merge.

    Note that a merge can only be performed if the transaction is still unconfirmed. If you click on the unconfirmed transaction the confirmation will will show for that transaction. One of the options in the confirmation window should be a merge with the duplicate transaction.

    Thanks for your answer, but Moneydance does not provide a merge in this case as it cannot identify the two transactions as duplicates.

    The transaction in account 22222222 has "From A/C 1111111" as the Description and the second transaction in account 1111111 as "To A/C 22222222" as the Description.

    Let me rephrase my question into two parts - if the OFX has adequate information, will Moneydance automatically merge these transfers into a single transaction or must I always either merge or manually fix them up?

    Second part, if Moneydance can do this, given this OFX, what is missing to allow Moneydance to merge the transfers in the two accounts:
    <STMTTRN>
    <TRNTYPE>XFER</TRNTYPE>
    <DTPOSTED>20150209</DTPOSTED>
    <TRNAMT>37.00</TRNAMT>
    <FITID>201502090001</FITID>
    <NAME>FROM A/C 64503076</NAME>
    <MEMO>CALL REF.NO. 1944</MEMO>
    </STMTTRN>

    Should I just make the <NAME> field the same for both transactions?

    Moneydance does not do anything special if it sees "XFR" in the TRNTYPE element.

    If you change the NAME to be similar to the other transaction then the merge option will be enabled for it.
