Citibank Direct Connect gone - how to download transactions?
OK - I'm not worried about billpay, but how do I connect to Citibank to download transactions now that Direct Connect is gone? Quicken users use something called "Express Web Connect" - how do we do this?
Thanks!

Hi Avi,
Unfortunately It's true Citi Bank is discontinuing their support for direct OFX connections, which Moneydance requires in order to talk directly to a bank. Moneydance only supports automatic connections through direct connect and not web connect. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download them from your bank's web site. You can download into QFX, QIF, OFX or OFC files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

Who's Avi? probably cut and pasted from another poster asking a similar question.
Was afraid this would be the answer, and it's not much of one. So it seems IK has no plans to make this most common requirement with one of the largest banks in the country any easier. Too bad - long time MD user and evangelist, but thinking about switching now...
best,

Web Connect is a proprietary Quicken method. I suppose IK could reverse engineer how it works, but of course Quicken could readily change it or introduce some sort of validation system back to Intuit into the method, so no guarantee that it could be made to work long term reliably.

We do have plans to improve the download situation for banks that down't support direct connect. With both Citi and Bank of America dropping direct connect this year, this issue is near the top of our agenda. I've attached the ticket for this bug to this discussion, so we can let you know once an update has been released.

I tried downloading QFX, OFX and OFC files from Citibank but they all opened "blank" (i.e. no info came thru to MD). If I use QIF the info transfers over. Anyone else having this problem?

That's definitely odd. With the OFX/QFX files, are you selecting the account to import them into form the dropdown? Also, do you have your registered filter such that the transactions might be hidden?

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Citibank Direct Connect gone - how to download transactions?
With the OFX/QFX files MD automatically finds the correct acct to download to. Unfortunately, nothing downloads into the MD acct. If I then go and run a QIF file (where I manually select the account to download the file to) transactions then show up in MD. I have register filter set to ALL.

PC2MAC, I'll need to get some private info from you to continue troubleshooting, so I split your question off into another discussion. Let's continue there.

I can download transactions with Quicken Connect but they are all listed as DEBIT PURCHASE or Pin. I can no longer see or categories spending. I assume this is part of the problem of this thread. Even if I download a QSV file its the same. is there ANY way I can get this function back? My whole system is F**&%CKED!

Hi Alexander,
The files you are downloading don't have category information in them. You should be able to categorize the transactions before confirming them in Moneydance. Over time, Moneydance will learn what categories go with what types of transactions and make better guesses for you.
