I accidentally confirmed a transaction. How do I unconfirm it?

    just a user,

Marking the transaction as "Uncleared" should work

So confirmed is a synonym for cleared?

    Hi kcannon,

    Try this...

Right-click (CTRL-click for Mac) the transaction in question.
From the resulting context menu, select 'Duplicate Transaction'.
A duplicate of the original transaction will appear in the register as 'Unconfirmed'.
You can then delete the accidently confirmed transaction.

Yeah, it seems to work that way. If you can the miss-confirmed transaction back to "Uncleared" you will notice the transaction appears again on your reconciling page.

That's a clever work around, Kevin. Thanks.

Hi, I have the same issue where I accidentally confirmed some transaction that should have been merged, and now I want to merge them. (Both transactions came via download via Moneydance+.)

I tried both solutions (duplicating the transaction and un-clearing the transaction) and in both cases it didnt work... the transaction stay in the "confirmed" top-half of the window and there is no option to merge.

Has something changed since this solution was suggested? Is there another way to solve this?

    Thanks for your help...

delete both transactions, set "resync start date" to just before the date these occurred and redownload them.

do a backup first, of course.

If both transactions came via download via MD+, (as opposed to maybe one entered or uploaded manually) that does concern me, as why would MD+ download the same transaction versus being a duplicate (i.e. same FITID hidden number)

Hi dtd, thanks for your suggestion.

About your concern on having both coming via MD+, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but this seems to work for me:

I download both my bank account and my credit card account using MD+

This means when I pay my credit card, I see two sides of the same transaction in moneydance:
    1. the payment to the card in my bank account
    2. the payment from my bank account in my credit card account

Then I set the "Category" on #1 above to be the credit card account in MD, and the "Category" on #2 above to be the bank account in MD.
After this, I effectively see the same transaction twice when I look at either account (though not identical, as they came from different sources).

Then MD offers me to merge these together and I do that.
Am I doing this correctly or should I do it differently? I'm very new to MD and there's quite a steep learning curve.

About your suggestion to delete and resync, wont I end up with duplicates of all transactions following the resync date? (These transaction I'm trying to merge are from a few months ago...)

just a user - one of the things Moneydance does well is having many ways to do things (as long as you follow double entry accounting rules), so what you describe for downloading works as one method. So no reason to do it differently just because you can.

Always backup before doing something affecting many items.

As for delete and resync, yes, the items will download again, and you'd have to merge them again IF they don't have the same hidden FITID number (they are not supposed to change, but yes, they sometimes do) - if the same, those would be filtered out automatically as duplicates. You could also resort the register and delete all the duplicates you don't want(i.e. the new blue dots)).

I tend to click on Moneydance/Settings/Network/Automatically Merge Downloaded Transactions when I do something like this. The only caveat there is that if that particular account has duplicate dates/purchase values, Moneydance might get matching wrong. (which is why always do a backup if it gets messed up). But what I wrote in the previous paragraph should also work.

But yes, you would get duplicates given the "few months ago" statement.
