CSV Importer extension (suggestions)

I am starting to use the CSV Importer extension (v1001) with a credit union deposit account and a Discover credit card account. I have never used previous versions of the extension. I offer the following suggestions.

(1) I think the Importer should use the phrases "debit amount" and "credit amount" in order to be consistent with the regular MoneyDance import CSV feature. (I was very surprised to find that the existing "-Deposit-" and "-Payment-" settings seem to do the opposite of what I expected, especially for the deposit account.)

(2) I would like to be able to define a default destination account for each Reader. (I imagine it’s fairly common for a user to set up a separate Reader for each bank account.)

(3) I think each Reader should have an option to "Automatically Merge Duplicates" or not, maybe with some way to configure exactly what constitutes a duplicate. (I often enter deposits manually as a split transaction, and I don't want those entries to be lost.)

(4) I would like to be able to use the Importer by selecting a CSV file in Windows file manager and clicking "Open with ... moneydance.exe"

Thank you!

    Hi Brett,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Moneydance supports automatic downloads using OFX Direct Connect and Moneydance +.
Discover previously supported the Direct Connect method but unfortunately, the OFX server for Discover stopped working around this time last year. So we removed the Discover OFX connection from Moneydance.

Without Direct Connect, you can still download your transactions for free. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download files from your bank's website.
We are aware Discover only offers CSV format now and you can find the relevant steps for importing CV files in this article of the Knowledge Base.

Moneydance default CSV tool seems to work correctly as long as the amount field and the debit field are reversed. The amounts should be imported to the correct columns with the correct settings.

In conclusion, when you are setting up the CSV import as displayed here

You should select the fields exactly in this order (only the first time you import a csv file from Discover), after that Moneydance should remember your settings and it will become easier.

    date
    ignore
    description
    deposit
    ignore

Alternatively, (if you're using Moneydance 2022/2023) you can subscribe to Moneydance+. This is the new (optional) subscription service that allows you to download transactions from your banks using the Plaid aggregator. You can read more about Moneydance+ in this blog post.
Discover are listed in Moneydance+ so you could try subscribing to download your transactions with this method. The steps for setting up this service are outlined here.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Thanks, but my intention was to provide suggestions regarding the CSV Importer extension, and the reply doesn't seem relevant to the extension.

Also, for Discover csv files (when not using the extension), I know from experience that I need would to use "Debit Amount" instead of "deposit".
