Moneydance+ American Express needs relinking every other day and OFX service with Amex credit cards
For some reason Moneydance+ is requiring me to relink my American Express account every other day. Is this normal?
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the account multiple times thinking this might correct the problem. Unfortunately, It doesn't.

Infinite Kind,
Any update to this problem which continues. I've heard nothing from you.

I am not support staff, just a user.

Jugging by the post on this subject how often you have to relink is set by the bank not Moneydance+ or Plaid.

I have had this problem ever since I started using Moneydance+ over a year ago. American Express requires me to re-link my account almost every day in order to download transactions. Once I re-link it works fine but it is frustrating to have to re-link every day. Is this American Express requiring the re-link or is this a Plaid/Moneydance issue? It would be nice to get input from someone in Moneydance support.

Same thing here with Chase. I fire up MD once every week or 2, and about every time, I have to go through the relinking process.
I'm not using 2fa for any of my banks.

I've used the Moneydance/Plaid connection ever since it was available and have generally found it to be very good. I, too, several weeks age developed the same American Express issue mentioned by others . My Chase accounts have no problems.
I've worked with MD support on the Amex issue and it seems to work, but then a day or two later the same request to re-link happens. I wonder whether other apps that use Plaid are having the same problem.

I have this problem also. Downloading AmExp transactions using Moneydance+ worked fine up until about two months ago, then I started having to re-link every few days.
A spoke to AmExp tech support who said it wasn't their problem, although I don't think the rep knew much about PLAID & MD+. I deleted AmExp from MD+ Setup and did a re-Setup but the problem persists.
One of these days I'll try backing up MD, setting up a new MD AmExp2 account, and setting that up in MD+ to see what happens. I'll post my results here.

Same issue with American Express - one connection to AmEx Savings account lasts 2 days. another connection to AmEx credit card sometimes lasts 3-4 days.
Since we are paying for this feature it would be nice to get MD response.

just a user - first, I'll state that I don't have relinking problems - I did at one point with Paypal, but that seems to have resolved itself.
I do use MD+ with my Amex Savings, as that never has supported OFX. OTOH, I do still have all of my Amex credit cards connected with OFX, rather than moving to MD+ (yet).
Although MD removed the OFX link for Amex under the premise that Amex abandoned OFX, OFX still does work at the moment with Amex. (I'll move of course if/when they do drop it).
It's a thought if you are pulling your hair out on Amex credit cards. Can't help on the issue if you talk Amex savings, and it won't help to say "it works for me".
Here's a link to the conversation about Amex OFX, as well as my "cheat sheet" on how to make Amex OFX work even given the removal of the OFX Amex link within MD.
Just a thought on Amex... Chase/Schwab/USAA - no more OFX for them sadly.

Thank you dtd, I went ahead and setup up OFX connection for my AmEx card by following your cheat sheet for custom OFX setup, and it worked fine.
As you pointed out the banking AmEx accounts don't seem to support OFX, so MD+ is the only option.
I went ahead and also disconnected/removed AmEx savings connection in MD+, restarted MD, used Toolbox to clean up MD+ links as usually MD+ leaves some orphan entities ("Cleanup missing Online Banking Links"), and created a new MD+ connection for my AmEx Savings account. Will report on how long it will last.

My choice is always OFX first, then MD+ if OFX is not available (any more).

I was under the impression that I was supposed to change all bank links to the Plaid version. I got along fine forever with OFX. Never any issues unless info changed on the bank side.
Since switching everything to Plaid, I have only had to reconfigure Wells Fargo accounts once. However, Chase accounts seem to require reconfiguration every couple of weeks.
To be fair, I've also had to revalidate my accounts in Youneedabudget.com once already, but only once. I'm considering abandoning Moneydance and just going with YNAB even though it doesn't have all the features I want, it is much easier to use and has better budget management.
Is there documentation explaining which institutions require Plaid and which don't?

I continue to use OFX first, MD+ when necessary.
For me, I've "lost" Schwab, Chase, USAA in particular. Fidelity and Amex continue to work for me at this point (though MD removed the Amex link, so I have to do it with advanced options)
So, no, you weren't required to do an all or nothing approach.
A list of supported OFX direct connect banks is here:
https://infinitekind.com/fi
The list, unfortunately, is shrinking, especially among the biggest banks. Still, if it works, OFX is still my go-to, though of course I'm using MD+ as well.
My Chase accounts are pretty stable, only asking for renewal about once a month. I think it has something to do with trust level (I just made that term up). Since I update pretty much daily versus occasionally, that does seem to make it take longer between renewals.

I've participated in this conversation or others like it for quite a while. It's disturbing that the issue has not been resolved. Early on, some of the IK team were helpful with suggestions that seemed intelligent but ultimately didn't work. I would think the problem is most likely in Plaid, where the actual interface with Amex actually occurs. I can't understand how this hasn't been solved before now. It would be nice to have a reply from IK with an update on what is being done to help fix the issue. Has there been any contact with Plaid? This issue must impact anyone using Amex and MD, so I wold think it should be easy to see what is happening and then fix it.

I think the primary fix would be to reinstate the OFX link to Amex credit cards.
The rest of the solution is not up to MD/IK, it would be on Plaid/Amex(or whoever) to improve their linking interface. The only thing MD/IK could do is contact Plaid/Amex and ask for a fix, just as you are asking the same. Well, they could do one other thing - move away from Plaid to something else, but that would take a bit of time to do.
So, yes, I agree that IK support should jump in, just because they are an official answer and I am not. But you won't hear anything new, just similar words from an official source. And maybe Jenny would restore the OFX link versus my workaround.

One thing we have heard about some of these aggregators is they do not want to deal with a company that is not based or at least has a presence in the U.S. and of course The Infinite Kind is based in the U.K.

I think I solved the problem. AMEX (or at least the platinum does) has the
ability to assign someone as a manager/administrator (or some other term)
of the account. I was able to use that feature under a different email
address. Once I did that, I was able to disable the plaid link for the
original email and create the new plaid email link. I have not had an issue
since then and it has been more than a month since I did this.
My sense is there is some corrupt plaid data associated with the old email
address and not correctable using the toolbox extension.
Try it and good luck. Let me know if it works for you.
