Trying to create a new Plaid connection (any bank) gives "Internal Error Occurred" error today Happens in multiple MD files. Is this a Plaid problem or MD? Any logs I can check to troubleshoot?

This is being actively worked upon, at the moment.

Same here. I seem to be having more issues with Plaid as time goes on. It used to be just my Lowes/Synchrony account that wouldn't download new transactions. Now it's also Target RedCard account that won't update with new transactions. The fix is to remove the account and re-link. What a pain. I've seen this same issuer reported by numerious users. InfiniteKind has been unresponsive in getting this fixed for over a year.
Now, I can't even re-link my Target account as I get the "Internal Error Occurred." I doubt posting this will result in anything getting fixed, but it's all I can do (submitting a problem ticket didn't help either).

The "Internal Error" has been referred to Sean and he approached Plaid regarding this.
Plaid have responded that some internal limit had been reached. a request has been made to increase whatever limit this is and to advise exactly what limit this is.

This is annoying to many people, but the result of using plaid since implementing financial data aggregation solely in MD turned out not to be possible. Plaid is good in terms of privacy and price, but there are some functional problems.
This is one of them of plaid no telling the subscribers (ie Infinite Kind / Moneydance) that these limits exist. How to adjust for this is now an ongoing discussion between MD and Plaid. It would be too bad if there is a cost imposed by plaid for this. But TANSTAAFL

Valentine Michael Smith would definitely agree with your statement, @sth

Ditto -- Plaid "internal error" when trying to add new account
-- no indication this is an account limit issue
-- I have inactivated three accounts by clicking don't sync and getting new account label "Click to select account"
-- I still get the error message
-- also Mondeydance+ shows three replicates of one and account and two of another all under headings for the same bank name
-- but if you click on connected it shows only "Disconnect [bank name]"
-- I was able to "disconnect" the replicate [bank name] entries -- lost one account and went to restore on Plaid -- and got the same internal error at a Bank that was already active on my account
This suggests Plaid has stopped working for me, for Mondeydance, or for everything.
Sigh.
Bob

@dtd "Valentine Michael Smith would definitely agree with your statement" Wasn't that Adam Selene in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" rather than "Stranger in a Strange Land"? My memory might be off having read those books a handful of decades ago. :-)

It is not a limit with individual users. That is not how Plaid works.
Plaid's contract is with The Infinite Kind (TIK) not with the individual, hence it is TIK that has the account with Plaid. so it would appear that the problem is something to do with a limit that Plaid has set on TIK. The tracking occurs by any connection from Moneydance on your machine to Plaid has to be routed via a TIK machine so that TIK can be billed for the service, Moneydance on your computer does not communicate directly with Plaid. I know Sean wanted to see if there was any alternative to being routed via TIK, perhaps by some sort of validation process but I do not think that has proven possible with the way Plaid works.

Hello,
For someone who is getting this error message, would it be possible to copy and paste the full error message, including the "request ID" into a response here? That should help us better track down exactly what is happening.
Thanks!
Sean

Sorry, I don't get any details. The error comes up when creating a new connection, in Plaid, right after selecting the bank. All I get is "Something went wrong - Internal error occurred". Screen shot attached,

Have the console Window open while doing this and see what information is shown there.
Moneydance menu option Help => Console Window

For the record: I'm on a Mac, normally use Brave browser, but tried Safari to make sure it wasn't a browser problem, and got same error in Safari.
There's nothing in the Console window, this is purely when MD has opened a browser that is talking to Plaid. I hope this isn't a stupid move, here is the URL to Plaid:

@Sean, I'm not sure how to find the 'request ID'. For me, the steps are as follows: - Set Up Moneydance+ --> Connect More Accounts - Select ANY bank (whether one I already have working connections or not). - Some (such as 53.com & bmo.com) will request me to enter credentials to Plaid. After I enter these, it will go to the error screen. - Others (AmEx, Chase, CapitalOne, Bank of America) will just go directly to the error screen.
All errors are identical to the screenshot previously posted above.
That said, all of the accounts that are already connected are downloading properly... I just cannot connect new accounts.
(also nothing showing up in Console except "Ran 1 of 4 MDP tasks @ Wed Jul 03 20:39:55 CDT 2024) forcedRefresh=true")
19 Posted by dtd on 04 Jul, 2024 01:44 AM
No worries about the link - it just redirects to my own Plaid connection.
There has to be something in the Console window (but maybe you mean nothing pertinent to this issue, but "nothing there" can also be pertinent). You should at least post the results in the console window before it happened - just to "show" there is nothing there.
Thanks for the help...

Ok, we passed in the time stream. You seem to be reporting accurately. And provided the pertinent info for Sean to contact Plaid.

Darn it, I thought I answered @dtd's question in #19, but my reply is not here now?
When I open Console window it says "print 'Hello world" in top frame and text below in bottom frame. When I then select Online... Setup Moneydance+, it opens MD's MD+ dialog and no changes to console. When I then click Connect More Accounts it opens browser to Plaid and then problems happen.
I have the same experience as @nomadwolf.... some (smaller) banks when I select them put up subsequent username/password dialogs in Plaid, but all the big ones put up the error message.

You have opened the Developers Console, not the Console Window, different thing.
The Console Window is under the Help menu where as the Developers Console is under the Window menu.
23 Posted by david.beav on 04 Jul, 2024 02:20 AM
Well bother, who knew there was a difference?
I open Console window which puts up lots of stuff and ends with "All debug flags enabled". I can post the whole thing if you need it.
When I Online... Setup Moneydance+, the console gets:
new MD+ state:ACTIVATED old:null
Ran 1 of 3 MDP tasks @ Wed Jul 03 19:17:48 PDT 2024) forcedRefresh=true
... and that "Ran X of X..." line increments every 5 seconds or so.
When I press Connect More Accounts in the MD+ window it adds:
setNewState: new=ACTIVATED old=UNKNOWN
24 Posted by dwg on 04 Jul, 2024 02:36 AM
The Developers Console is where you can create and run Python scripts. The Console Window shows what is written to Moneydance's log file, including extra information.
It would not hurt to post the console log, after you redact any confidential information and have tried to use Moneydance+ to connect to an institution.

Log attached, thorugh getting the error in Plaid.
26 Posted by david.beav on 04 Jul, 2024 02:56 AM
Would it add any value if I posted the source of the Plaid page with the error? You should be able to get the same page from the URL I posted above.
27 Posted by dtd on 04 Jul, 2024 03:16 AM
Yes, who knew. Thanks for helping providing definitive information to confront Plaid with, as they threw a "you have too many connections" at MD a few days ago, and there seems to be a "difference of opinion" on what is supposed to be happening.

I appreciate the effort going on here
but I have explicitly been told (Weds) by Moneydance (Infinite Kind) that
a) they are fully aware of the problem
b) they (our vendor and by implication we the clients) cannot fix it --
this is a Plaid problem)
c) they have formally notified Plaid
it obviously won't get fixed on this holiday
One would hope it will be fixed Friday -- but obviously there is no way to
know that.
I don't think anything they or we can learn from the log moves this
forward.
I provided them two logs
Log_1 was after attempting to get in several times incl after deleting some
less critical accounts in Md+
-- that one was long
-- and I realized after I collected it had a lot of irrelevant data and
might be confounded by the multiple attempts
Log_2 was after I did the following
-- closed all apps except browser (Arc)
-- deleted the InfiniteKind cookies relating to connecting with Plaid from
my browser
-- closed browser
-- did a full restart
-- opened only Moneydance and attempted to connect to Plaid
-- and got the exact same error message
-- of note that log is also longer than I expected because it includes all
the activities of Md starting up.
At that point I got the update from Md that this was not my problem or
theirs but Plaid's and they had notified Plaid.
I do wish I understood the logs better and if folks learn anything useful
would appreciate hearing it
-- but don't think the logs are going to help us regarding this problem.
thanks
Bob

Who do you think made them (MD/IK) fully aware of the problem?
I agree at this point that MD logs are probably not going to help. However, they are (were) part of the diagnosis process.
Note that Sean was still asking similar questions in this thread last night.
Plaid has thrown a "you've passed a certain threshold limit" error at IK/MD users, and no new accounts can be created at this time.
MD/IK is working with Plaid on this issue. Timing, as you say, can be an issue on a four day weekend.

I am having the same problem. Here is a screen shot.
Nothing happened in the console when trying to connect a new account in Plaid.
