Messed up merging
Today I was updating accounts by adding in recent transactions. Some of these were funds transferred from savings to checking. I had already manually entered these transactions and then used Online/Download All accounts. What I'm seeing now are duplicate entries in both accounts. I merged the downloaded transactions in Savings with my already entered ones and deleted the downloaded duplicate entries. Then in checking I was merging those transactions. When I was done I find that the funds transfers between accounts do not have the blue circle to show these were matched with Downloaded Online transactions.
What I'm learning is that when online downloads are completed, these transactions are already entered into the registers. What I was expecting is to look at each downloaded transaction and either merge it or add it as needed. This is how the process worked when I was using Quicken Then I can have correctly merged funds transfers.

Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
After downloading/importing your data, you should go through the confirmation process, as outlined here.
To begin the confirmation process, you should select the first transaction in the register with a 'blue dot'. A panel will appear on the right of your screen which shows the 'Current Transaction' details. You should amend the category within this panel, then select 'Confirm'.
You'll see the solid blue dot change to a blue circle. Moneydance will then move to the next unconfirmed transaction in the register.
As you go through this process it will become quicker and easier. Moneydance will begin to recognize the information you have previously confirmed, and start to suggest the correct categories within 'Similar Payees' in the panel on the right.
The next time you download from the bank many of the correct categories will automatically be assigned, and this will improve as you confirm more transactions.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

More detailed details.
This morning I was updating accounts, did the online download for all
accounts and had the issue. It was an investment account and MoneyDance
(MD) wants to create a debit/credit transaction (Is that called double
entry?) but the other account that MD uses is the wrong one. So if MD has
learned a “bad habit” how can teach it the correct account pairs?

You could limit the merge option, you should select Moneydance --> Preferences --> Network and set the option "Only match downloaded transactions when they are at most 'N' days apart" as outlined here.
Change the N to 7 or less.
This should help limit the possibility of any incorrect merges in future.
The easiest solution to correct a confirmation error would be to create a transaction to replace the one which has been 'merged' and therefore is missing from the register. You may have use your bank statement for the transaction information.
Also, amending the settings as I mentioned earlier will help reduce any incorrect merges happening in the future.
Alternatively, if you have a backup of your data from before the 'merge', you can restore and then go through the merging process again.
Or, you could try to delete all newly downloaded transactions and download them again from your bank.
Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!
