Bill pay setup fails for new Wells Fargo checking
I have two WF accounts connected to Moneydance through Moneydance+ (Plaid). Older one works fine for transaction download and bill pay. New account connects to bank for transaction download, so I know the routing/account numbers are correct. But I get a communication error (A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
Error Description:java.io.IOException: HTTP Error:400 Bad Request) when connecting for bill pay. I tried using the http://www.wellsfargo.com/fmssetup site, and going through the "Setup Online Bill Payment" process again, but nothing changed. I haven't tried deleting the account and starting over. Is there a delay in the FMSSETUP process? Any other suggestions?

Moneydance+ does not support bill pay, only Direct Connect does when the bank provides that service.

I called Wells Fargo and got someone in software services. I hate having to play along that I'm using Quicken. But they talked me through the fmssetup process, then the bill pay setup for Quicken. On my side, Moneydance sees the checking account in Set Up Online Bill Payment, the box for bill pay is selected, and I get no errors in the setup process. Another account I have with WF works fine for bill pay. When I directly asked that Direct Connect be turned on for the account I got no response, they didn't recognize this as an option.

It possible that Wells Fargo only allows Bill Pay for certain accounts.
Another option is for you to try to clear the current connection information and recreate the connection anew.
To achieve this, please navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox (v.1068)
Launch the Toolbox and select the Update Mode
Then, navigate to Menu: Online Banking (OFX) Tools
In the resulting window, under Update Functions you should select :
Delete OFX Banking Service / Logon profile (remove_one_service.py)
Finally, restart Moneydance and recreate the connection as outlined here.
Most importantly, please refer to this article of the Knowledge Base about Online Bill Payment.
Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Hi Maddy,
When I go into the Toolbox I get a warning that I have both OFX and MD+ configured for this checking account. Why would this be a problem if MD+ isn’t used for bill pay? Do I have to remove the MD+ link?

If you have OFX and MD+ configured, that's not a problem, but OFX will always be used by default, and the only way MD+ works is to hit the download button on the account itself and pick MD+ ...

Toolbox reports this as very few people deliberately want both configured for an account. (I do for testing purposes)

Maddy’s process of disconnecting the account from OFX using the Toolbox and then reconnecting didn’t work for me. Choosing Set Up Online Banking takes me directly to the MD+ account window. Looks like once the account is connected to MD+ you can’t go in using Setup Online Banking to reconnect to the OFX Service for Direct Connect.
Even if I disconnect the Wells Fargo accounts form MD+ in the Set Up MoneyDance+ window, restart MD, and go back to Set Up Online Banking I not getting anywhere.
How can I get back to the window that gives me a choice of MD+ or OFX connections? Or am I going off in the wrong direction?
Kevin

Use Toolbox to disconnect MD+ from that account (since you say a simple disconnect does not work). I think the correct item would be "Cleanup missing online banking links", but Stuart would know for sure.
That should at least allow for a choice, unless OFX is already connected, but then you could also follow Maddy's instructions if you want to start with a clean slate for the account in question.

dtd,
I followed your suggestion as well as repeating Maddy’s OFX disconnect. When I opened Setup Online Banking I got the OFX choice, and selected checking and online banking for the account. Opening Setup Online Banking just gave me the window that says it’s already connected. When I opened Online Bill Payment… it gave me the Online Bill Payment window. Downloading transactions gave me a lot of duplicate transactions, but this is a new account and I can merge the extras away.
Everything looking good now. Thanks to you and Maddy for the help. If there are new issues I’ll let you know.
Kevin
