Monetdance+ is not downloading all transactions
I have just set up a new file and all the bank and credit cards in it (a total of 8) and connected them via Moneydance+. The accounts connect and download but no matter what I do I am only getting 2 months off transactions. I am stipulating "All Available" or, as this hasn't been working "selecting Sep1 2024", I'm only getting transaction back to the beginning of June 2025.
This is quite urgent as I am filing after an extension and need this to work quickly.

Aggregation services typically only hold 60-90 days worth of transactions. The service they offer is the automatic downloading of recent data, not historical.
Generally, if you want history you would need to see if the institutions make available downloadable data in the form of OFX or QIF files from their online banking sites.

Thanks. Has this changed recently? Because as recently as earlier this year I was to be able to download months and months of transactions. I’ve checked with the institutions and been able to download QIF or OFX files for most but not all. Some, even when you download manually, only have 120 days. None so far only 90. Having an option to select transactions as far back as September 2024 seems odd if most aggregators only do 60-90 days, especially because there’s noting to indicate a problem when they come through.

Moneydance has always had the options to select the date range of transactions to be downloaded. The selection has a number uses, it can be useful when you migrated from another program to limit the amount of data downloaded. With the Direct Connect connection protocol different institutions would offer quite different ranges, some would be in the 60-90 day range others could be a couple of years, we did see this change with some institutions.
So the option is in Moneydance, but what can be downloaded depends on the aggregator and/or the institution.
I have not seen any information on how much history the aggregator, Plaid keeps, but the institutin could well limit the range they can retrieve on the initial download.

@Steven
The availability of past transactions depends on the bank and/or their service provider. However, Moneydance will attempt to retrieve data starting from the date you specify.
For manual downloads, when accessing your bank’s website directly, you should be able to select custom date ranges—this may allow you to retrieve older transaction history.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Hi Maddy
Something is different with the way Moneydance+ is working from when I last used it a few months ago. Its disregards my specifying Sept 2024 as a start date and only downloads transactions from June 7th 2025 for ALL accounts.

It's possible, though it largely depends on the bank's policies rather than Moneydance + itself. If you've already used the Reset Sync Date entry feature but your bank restricts automatic downloads to the past three months, Moneydance + will only retrieve data within that same timeframe.
You might want to manually download older data if it's not available through automatic sync.
You can download it using the OFX or QFX file format, if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.
The steps for manually importing your data are outlined in this article from the Knowledge Base.

That would imply that Plaid is limiting the amount of data they hold on top on any limits the banks impose on retrieval.
Aggregators operate on a retrieve, store, provide basis. They determine how far back they store data for. They will not do unlimited as it increases their storage needs and therefore cost.

I’m just saying that either Moneydance, Moneydance+ or Plaid is limiting the amount of historical data because I can't get anything before early June 2025 for any of my accounts. Prior to my recent interaction with Monaydance+ retrieval went back far further. I’ve been using Moneydance for 15 years.
