Has Bank of America killed Moneydance? BOA no longer allows Quicken downloads. They only allow Excel downloads. This was with no warning whatsoever. I have always enjoyed using Moneydance as a super alternative to Quicken. How are we supposed to download data now?

There are many topics on BoA already, and the available options have been outlined in them.

Yep, Johnny. I called BofA and this is permanent.

I am trying Moneydance+ for this, but am having troubles (see my ticket).

I also found you can import into Moneydance the Excel file that you can still download. The purging of duplicates does not work flawlessly, however, so you might want to delete all but the new transitions from the Excel file before importing.

So I set up Moneydance+ like everyone suggested. Now when I try to download my info I get this message:

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

    Bank Name:Bank of America
    Account:Savings

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
    Error Description:java.net.UnknownHostException: eftx.bankofamerica.com

I get the same message for my checking account

    Hi Johnny,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

In order to stop the OFX method taking over Moneydance + and allow your transactions to download as expected, you should clear the current connection information still stored within the program.

To achieve this, please navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox (v.1068)

Launch the Toolbox and select the Update Mode

Then, navigate to Menu: Online Banking (OFX) Tools
In the resulting window, under Update Functions you should select :
Delete OFX Banking Service / Logon profile (remove_one_service.py)

    • You should see a prompt that allows you to select the relevant bank connection.

Finally, restart Moneydance and recreate the connection as outlined here.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

This may end my long time use of Moneydance for MacOS.
I realize there are workarounds (CSV importer), but looks like this is not seamless and I really want to avoid the hassle of potential duplicates, etc.

Is it still not possible to set up a direct connection to Bank of America?

Unfortunately, Bank of America has discontinued their use of OFX Direct Connect. This service is required to download your transactions automatically into Moneydance for free.

Without Direct Connect, you can still easily import your data into the program for free. You can use a web browser to download files from your bank's website. Although we usually recommend using the OFX, QFX or the QIF file format, unfortunately Bank of America only provide CSV files.

CSV files can be imported but the import process is a little more involved than other formats. CSV files were not designed to transfer data to personal finance programs, so there is no standard format or layout for these files.

You'll be able to import the file to Moneydance using File --> Import. During the import process, you'll assign the columns in your CSV file to fields within the Moneydance account register as outlined in this article from the Knowledge Base.

Once you've determined the import settings you need, they should not change.
Note: It might be useful referring you to post 19 on this public thread.

    • Alternatively, you can subscribe to Moneydance+. This is an optional subscription service that allows you to download transactions from your banks using the Plaid aggregator. You can read more about Moneydance+ in this blog post and in this section of the Knowledge base.

There is a 30-day free trial so you can fully test downloading from Bank of America before you're charged.

If you own a Moneydance 2022 license key (or a later version) and you have registered the program, the cost to use Moneydance+ is $4/monthly or $40/yearly.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Downloaded moneydance+ and connected accounts. Questions:

    1) Do I have to manually click Download All Accounts every time, or is there an automated way to handle this?
    2) Bank of America checking download didn't download November 11-November 27. How can I fix this?

    Please find my replies below:

    1) Not necessarily.
You could navigate to Moneydance > Settings> Network and enable the feature Automatically Download Transactions in Background
As soon as you open your data file, Moneydance will initiate transaction downloads for all Direct Connect and/or Moneydance+ enabled accounts.
Before this will work, you must set a Master Password via File > Passwords, and enable the option to "Store Online Passwords in File".

    2) You can select Online->Setup Moneydance+->Accounts , then click on an account (not the bank name) in the left column. Select the Reset Sync Date from the popup menu when it appears. During the next transaction download, Moneydance will prompt you to define the start date instead of downloading it all that's available. Note that while the software will request data from that point onward, the actual transaction history returned is subject to limitations set by the bank or its data provider.

Most importantly, you should ensure that the filter at the top of the register is set to "All".

Also, there is a button that toggles between "split" and "combined mode" at the top-right corner of the register, next to New Transaction.

If this is in split mode, then all unconfirmed transactions will be shown in a second register which appears below the regular register.

This can sometimes be collapsed, so that all it shows is a bar with a label that says "N unconfirmed transactions". If you see that bar, drag it up vertically and you'll see the unconfirmed transactions in that list.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Okay, I've mostly gotten this done. Do I have to log into Moneydance
every time now? Can I reset my overly-long password?

Generally, if you would like Moneydance to remember your passwords for automatic downloads, you can select the “Store Online Passwords in File” option.
After enabling this, you'll need to enter your login credentials once more, before they're stored, as outlined in this article of the Knowledge base.

If you wish to change your current one, you should uncheck the "Set Master Password" option, click "OK", restart Moneydance and set a new password.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

This comment was split into a new private discussion: BOA - Moneydance + downloads

NEW ISSUE: I saw new cleared transactions in my online bank account.
None is pending. When I clicked Online, Download Bank of America Online
transactions, Moneydance said in the bottom line that there were no new
transactions. (The screen view is as you prescribed.)

I haven't changed my master password or made any other changes.

    Hi Marcia,

I have had this precise issue with two credit card accounts in my current trial of Moneydance+. It is a drag because one of the advantages of staying on top of these things is I can spot fraud, when speed is key..

What support here has told me is this is just how Plaid operates. In 12-24 hours, those cleared transactions will download into Moneydance.

The credit card companies' tech people are aware of this, but they blame Plaid -- not their problem.

Let me know if I am all wrong on this and there is an easy fix, but it's been my experience.

    Tim
