My discover card which was downloading correctly the last time I opened Moneydance is now not downloading transactions. I have tried deleting the account and re adding it. I ask it to download, it pops up the password box, I enter the password, it says "downloading transactions" in the lower left of the screen and then doesn't download the transactions.

    Hi Maddie,

We are sorry to hear about the problems you've encountered.

Unfortunately, we're aware of a problem with the Discover connection, as it has been reported by many customers .
Our lead developer is actively working to get the connection fixed.

We will update you, as soon as we have more information and we will provide the steps you need to get connected again.

In the meantime, if you need to update your accounts you can use a web browser to download files from your bank's web site. We'd recommend you download using the OFX or QFX file format if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.

    Hi Maddie,

Unfortunately, I don’t have the best news regarding the Discover connection.
It seems that Discover are no longer supporting automatic downloads to software other than Quicken and Intuit programs.

You can read the public thread about the Discover issues on this page.

One customer has advised contacting the bank directly and asking them to reconsider the changes they’ve made. It’s possible that with enough requests from their customers to support Moneydance, they’ll revert to allowing our Direct Connect downloads.

Without Direct Connect, you are still able to easily import your data into the program. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download files from your bank's web site.
We'd recommend you download using the OFX or QFX file format if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.

Moneydance 2019 includes en embedded browser (currently a beta feature) that makes downloading from the banks website much easier. We're also working on another feature (coming soon) that will remember how you download from the banks site and help to automate the manual import process.

    Maddy,

Thanks for posting the detailed explanation of the issue which I have also fallen prey to recently. At least half of the reason I switched from CapitalOne360 to Discover Bank was because CapitalOne made the same idiotic decision to only support Quicken/Intuit downloads.

Is there a reason why OFX is being turned down by so many banks? I ran into this issue with my old credit union as well. I'm looking forward to the embedded browser feature, since having to exit the Moneydance application and log in separately to download transactions is incredibly inconvenient vs just being able to select the download option in Moneydance and let it do all the hard work. I know this isn't your fault. I will be sending my comments to Discover Bank on your behalf, but my experience with the last two banks is that they just don't care and will remain without OFX support henceforth.

    Thanks,

    - max

    Hi Max,

Thank you for sharing your views.

You might know already, that Moneydance only supports automatic downloads using Direct Connect.

Other banks may use connection methods such as Web Connect and Express Web Connect.

By only using Direct Connect, we can guarantee that your username, password and financial data only ever exists with your bank or on your own personal computer, and at no point are your details stored on another server.

You can read more about why we only support this connection type in our blog and also in this article.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.

    Maddy,

Yes, I am aware of all that from previous discussions, but thank you for making it clear.

Have you guys considered operating a subscription service for Moneydance that leverages the newer protocols without storing anything server side? I’m imagining some kind of secure proxy that accepts credentials or tokens stored in the moneydance client, but doesn’t persist the information any longer than is required to perform the downloads. I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee to cover the cost of the infrastructure and ensure my privacy.

I appreciate the stance that Infinite Kind is taking as it relates to protecting the financial privacy of their customers. Keep up the great work.

    Thanks,

    - max
