I test the parameters I use to connect to Chase, to make sure they work. I enter same into the interface in your software, and get the message: "The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution.

Additional information from the server:
INVALID ID/PASSWORD"

I know my info is correct. How can I get past this point?

    Hello,

Do you already have your Chase accounts enabled for direct connections? By default, you'll need to do this, as it won't just accept the same information you use to log into their website.

Chase allow you to enable Direct Connect on their website. To enable this connection method, follow these steps:

    1. Log on to the Chase website.
2 Look to the upper right-hand corner of the webpage for the head and torso icon.
    2. Click the head and torso icon and select 'More Settings'.
    3. A list of items will appear on the left side.
    4. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list.
    5. There you'll see the link for 'Desktop apps' under the AccountSafe menu
    6. Click to activate your account.

You should be able to connect in Moneydance after that. If you still have trouble, you may need to perform one more verification step. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Log on to Chase's site.
    2. Go to your Secure Message Inbox.
    3. You should have a message asking you to confirm your connection. Click the link to confirm.

Ethan, thanks so much for your response. I did as you suggested, and
enabled connections from desktop software. I re-attempted the connection,
and this time got the following error:

"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The
details of this error are below.

    Bank Name: Chase

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a
network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
Error Description: java.io.IOException: HTTP Error:400 Bad Request
    "

I then tried again and got the following:

"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The
details of this error are below.

    Bank Name: Chase

The error code reported by the server was: 2000

Please verify your identity within the next 7 days. Using your desktop
computer, go to your banks website and visit the Secure Message Center
    for instructions.
    "

This is a little difficult. I have used online services for many years and
have rarely had difficulties, and nothing like this.

    Hello,

Different banks have different levels of security and setup processes for enabling direct connections. Chase unfortunately is a major one we've encountered that makes their customers jump through many hoops. The second message makes it sound like you're making progress, since it references the secure message center I mentioned in my previous message. Can you give that a try? Again, that part of the instructions are:

If you still have trouble, you may need to perform one more verification step. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Log on to Chase's site.
    2. Go to your Secure Message Inbox.
    3. You should have a message asking you to confirm your connection. Click the link to confirm.

One more time, and it worked. I found the Secure Messaging section of the
Chase website, clicked around there, and was able to connect.

Now, on another matter (which may not be Moneydance's problem, the download
of Quicken data was horrible. Inaccurate, full of dead accounts, etc. It
may be a Quicken thing, but I just don't know. Any advice?

    Thanks again

Now I'm trying with TD Bank. I went to their site and indicated that
Quicken 2018 (?) should be allowed access, as that was the software they
said had attempted access today. I set up Online Access for the relevant
account, and it appeared successful. When I tried to download data I got
    the following:

"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The
details of this error are below.

Bank Name: TD Bank Online Banking

The error code reported by the server was: 2000

    General Error

     "

However, it did download. Will it do it correctly the next time? It just
    might.

Another question: does Moneydance store passwords, or do I have to
    manually enter them each time?

    Hello,

I'm a bit confused about the TD Bank connection. It sounds like at first you got an error, but now it seems to have worked properly?

As a security measure, Moneydance will not save your passwords unless you set a master password for your data file. You can do this at File -> Passwords from the menu bar, and also choose to store your bank passwords in that window. Don't forget your data file password. We haven't built in any backdoors to our encryption, so if you forget it, we have no way to help you access your data file.

Yes, it appeared to fail, but then worked. Maybe we're there. Thanks for
the password info; I can handle that.

Now if I can figure out how to get the data from Quicken cleanly we might
    have liftoff!!!
