i don't if there is a "security" element to this drama about the files but
SECU can be overly secure. i've had some experience with this over a money
wire.

the quicken thing is baffling. this relationship could have well started
back in the eighties or something. it's above my level to sort out. i
work with screenshots and that's about it.

good luck everybody

bootsmontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480870032020-02-22T22:56:10Z2020-02-22T22:56:10ZNC SECU not communicating

This sounds very promising. If anyone still has trouble connecting, you may need to disable and reenable your connection. If that doesn't help, please let us know the full error message you are receiving.

I'm honestly a bit astonished you all managed to convince them to reactivate direct connections. In most circumstances when this happens, everyone is just stuck with whatever their initial decision was. Maybe you all are more persistent, maybe credit unions are more responsive to their customers, or maybe you just got lucky and the right person was willing to make a good call.

In response to some of the other comments, I personally think it would be worthwhile to pursue them offering more manual download formats. While that's less urgent now, that could still be a viable backup option if something goes wrong with their direct connections. And as dwg correctly pointed out, if they are offering services like direct connect already, they are already formatting your transactions for these file types. They just need to make them available for you to download. It really shouldn't be any extra work for them after they set it up.

I thought as a software vendor that many of us use due to being fed up with Intuit, you or someone might reach out to Mr. Thoma and discuss what would benefit his membership. We, the members, actually own the NC SECU so they are more interested in keeping us happy and why they are one of the largest credit unions in the U.S.

But at the same time, they are a bureaucracy and many of their board members are government employees of one sort or another so being bureaucratic comes naturally to them.

They may not have heard of programs beyond Quicken and it might be enlighting for them to hear from a Quicken competitor.

Thanks, John

John Beanetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480870032020-02-23T19:05:48Z2020-02-23T19:05:48ZNC SECU not communicating

i posted earlier about the download options offered by my little Fla credit
union vs SECU.
this is their help page which includes online banking.....screenshot please!
[image: CFCU HELP.png] doesn't explain the total obsession SECU has for all things Q, but it may
show there is a common way banks deal with what and how they support.
hopefully we will get more format options after SECU can examine it's
program. they did say in my response email that they are going to look
into adding the additional format options i requested. but then again i
got transferred back to staff support..

It is not hard to work out why U.S. companies appear to be fixated on Quicken. I believe it has the greatest market share and is by far the best known software.

Also it was developed by Intuit who are also notable in the small to medium business market with QuickBooks. Now while may institutions may think they can do whatever they like to individual customers, since they will often do nothing about it, business customers and the company that provides accounting software to many of them could be a big problem. Hence "supporting" Intuit could be seen as being good for the Banks. Imagine Intuit telling business customers that XYZ Bank will not work with them .... I could imagine a business think geez this bank doesn't work with my accounting software I had better change banks. Of course Intuit would ride on this to see their Personal software.

With Intuit now not owning Quicken it will be interesting to see where that might go. Clearly the owners of Quicken still have arrangements with Intuit, as I understand it Intuit still owns Express Web Connect, but who knows how long that will last. I have no idea who runs the branding servers that are used for Web Connect.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480870032020-02-23T23:09:59Z2020-02-23T23:09:59ZNC SECU not communicating

Well said

I fear they will continue to move toward discontinuing direct connect in favor of Express Web Connect. I do hope we can convince (or maybe have convinced) them to at least offer OFX files for download in addition to CSV files.

Danatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480870032020-02-24T15:14:14Z2020-02-24T15:14:14ZNC SECU not communicating

let's hope Dana

OFX will give us a second way to access our transactions like i currently
use with my tiny bank in fla.

in the first way we are all familiar with, MD connects to SECU and
downloads with our PW's. etc. it does the work.

with OFX we connect to SECU and use the (new) download option. on my Mac
it goes to the "download folder" and as soon as i click it open MD sees it
like they connected.

we have 3 pages of over 70 posts and everyone has a nugget of information.
we have too many dots connected now. we'll get another "Mr Beane" letter with more great news. i just feel it.

truthfully we don't even need to identify ourselves as moneydance users in
my opinion to push for OFX.

Good morning to you as well, Mr. Beane.

Thank you for the additional information and suggestion. I will be passing the information you have provided to the appropriate team. I am an advocate of offering additional file types for download.

And thank you for your continued support of our Credit Union.

(no... Jon... Stop!!!)

Too late, I did, and now I’m back to:

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
I tried rolling back to 2017, and now I’m stuck with the problem 

I (just now) tried what I found in the beta area without any success.

I did find this post from today.

I should probably add, that I’ve been running both the Window and Linux version on a shared network datafile. So I’d like to find a solution that would allow me to continue to use both.

I would strongly recommend NOT using a share for your data set in Moneydance 2017 or later. The way Moneydance writes data is not compatible with writing data through the network.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/480870032020-03-24T01:11:25Z2020-03-24T01:11:25ZNC SECU not communicating

I believe you may need to disable your accounts and re establish the accounts as “new connection” It’s worked sometimes
