Citi Cards Regularly Fails

Citi card accounts online banking setup in moneydance regularly returns errors. I've gone through the process of re-establishing online banking in moneydance several times. It works intermittently and then fails. Now, today, resetting everything is no longer working and I can't get any transactions from citi. What's the deal with citi cards?

I also re-established Citi access a few weeks ago, after an outage of two weeks or so. Transaction download worked fine for a few weeks.

Then, yesterday, I started receiving authentication errors. The same credentials work fine on the Citi website.

Same here. I have 2 Citi card accounts (Citi only) and they fail authentication and keep asking for the user/password for each account. Other Citi card accounts like sears works fine.

The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution.

I just discovered the same problem.

Why can't Citi Cards get their act together?

This is sad news. We had heard that Citi connections were working for everyone for the last few weeks since their last major outage.

For those of you would be willing, could you send us the full contents of your error console in a new private thread? This may contain more detailed information about exactly what's going wrong. We probably only need a few of these to cross reference, so if you're not willing, that's ok.

Here's how to get the logs:

    1) In Moneydance, click on the Help menu in the Moneydance menu bar and select the Console Window option. This will open the console messages window.
    2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
    3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the Copy to Clipboard button at the bottom to copy the text.
    4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response.

Again please DO NOT post your logs here or on any public thread, since they may contain your personal account information. Please open up a separate private thread.

    Same problem. Also, the

website that used to work seems to have disappeared.

I sent you a log file.

This is very strange...I have been having the same problem and had just recently attempted to download and got the same error. After reading this thread and seeing your advice, I opened the Console window and tried again....but this time it worked. I've copied the log and will send in a private message.

I have seen a lot of issues out there with servers here as of late. Makes you wonder what's going on in the cyber security these days or lack there of.. We had an issue last week with IBM Cloud going down and taking out our whole infrastructure in Softlayer.. Even though Citi isn't reporting any issues here the customers are saying they can't login to the mobile app either. I am attaching my log stripped of any personal data but not sure it will tell you a lot so hope it helps in some way.

    Hello yash,

All of the errors we've been seeing over the weekend have this "We've had a problem processing your request. Please try again later" phrase. Are you getting a different error message? If so, can you please open up a new private thread and send us your logs, as I outlined in post 5 on this thread?

I also tried this morning and after entering my credentials it downloaded transactions. For one of my accounts I had to go and remove Quicken as the desktop app to manage and set up Moneydance again.

I have not been so lucky. Can't download. Redid MD account. Went into Citi and deleted and redid MD as app. No luck. Get the following message:

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

    Bank Name: Citi Cards
Account: Citi 2X Cash MC - YYYY
    Account Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXYYYY

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.

Moneydance 2019 did show up in the Citi Desktop Apps page.
    I am running 2019.4 1899

Would going to a new version help??? I have tried 2020v1913 but had the problem discussed here, so went back to 1899:

    Same problem :-( .

I just upgraded to 2020.1 1924 [from 2019.4 1899] with the hope it would fix the problem. Same error message upon first run of 2020. I deleted CitiCard online in MD. I deleted MD on the Citi website as an allowed desktop app. Asked Citi to add a desktop app access. Set up CitiCard in MD. Asked MD to download CitiCard transactions. Same message. The desktop app that showed up in Citi was MD 2019, NOT 2020.1 ???

I don't have a big problem with downloading a file from the Citi website, but it is just one more nuisance with MD.

I called CitiCards today, spoke with a Customer Service Rep who did seem to know about transaction downloads. End result is that I was told all was OK at the Citi end and I should contact my personal finance program Help.

I pointed out all that was in my previous message regarding all seemed in order at MD end, Moneydance 2019 was showing as registered and most recent attempt to download was time-stamped, but Error:400 message was received every time download was attempted.

I hate being in the middle of a finger-pointing contest, but please H-E-L-P Moneydance.

Now running MD 2020.1 1925 on iMac running OS 10.13.6 High Sierra.

Today I tried to update my Citicard Costco Visa. The download completed saying there were no transitions. On the Wed site multiple transitions are shown that have not been downloaded to MD. Here we go again. I updated MD about a week ago. Is this a problem with MD?

I still am not able to download CitiCard transactions after multiple tries, delete connection and reestablish, delete and restore Desktop App on Citi site - still nothing. See earlier posts. Running MD 2020.2 1929 on iMac OS 10.13.6 High Sierra.

I saw a post by Sean stating that the Citi problem had been resolved.

just a user, my Citi Costco card has been problematic over time, but does work sometimes. That catches everything up, so I haven't worried about it.

    So, questions:

Is your "still not able to download" constant? i.e. it never works? If so, you need to check your login credentials, and maybe reset them in MD as well.

Does it occasionally work? If so, I think that's just Citi being a pain. That's what happens to me.

I have done everything suggested by dtd - several times. I reset my login credentials in MD using 1Password to copy and paste the same credentials I use to log in to citicards directly - successfully. I have deleted and restored Desktop App authorization for MD at the Citi website - several times.

The interesting thing is that after doing the above, Citi recognizes and shows my login from MD after an unsuccessful download attempt if I go back to the website and check, but I get the following error message in MD.

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

    Bank Name: Citi Cards
Account: Citi 2X Cash MC - xxxx
    Account Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXxxxx

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.

It does appear that something needs to be reset somewhere, but I don't know where to do that that I haven't already done!?

    I'm a fellow user.

You can try completely resetting the connection to this bank using the instructions in the post:

A http 400 error sounds like a problem at the web server level i.e. it is not getting as far as talking to the OFX software underneath.

Many thanks; that appears to have worked.

A couple of hints for others:
I'm on a Mac, so had to "run/open" the download to a .py before I could Open Script and Run and select the account to clear it.
I deleted the Citi Desktop App setup for Moneydance before doing anything. Turns out I apparently should have left that set up in order to re-establish the Citi/MD account. I just enabled it up again.

While I was doing the above, I cleared out my Schwab online account settings, anticipating I should have a clean start when Schwab gets fixed.

    Many thanks again, dwg!

Folks, here it is DEC 13, 2020 and WE ARE *STLL* HAVIN THIS CRAP! It is NOT any MoneyDance or Quicken or QuickBooks issue - it is CITI ! Citi Bank / Citi Cards CANNOT GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. For those of you who seem short on troubleshooting skills; here's the proof - don't be limited to say, "Oh, let me update my app and try again." Go to what is called a *COMPUTER* aka PC or Laptop, and just go to - THAT is PROOF that it's Citi issue! "HTTP ERROR 400, This page isn't working." So, there is NO 'finger-pointing' - it is, plain and simple CITI issue! This has been happening at least for the past month! I think they may be getting DDos-ed (Distributed Denial of Service) and they simply don't know how to handle it. A couple/few years ago, they forced me to get a new card, since they said they had been compromised - and I'm glad they did! Still, this continued 404 "page isn't working" error means their site is DOWN, basically - and that is on "them," not MoneyDance or anyone else. Thanks.
