How do you change assigned name for downloaded transactions?

I imported my Quicken Files into Moneydance. When I implemented on-line banking I assigned the wrong name for the downloaded transaction, e.g., I assigned the name "IVY..." instead of "AIM..." for the stoc called "Invesco..." I realized this when the downloaded transactions didn't equal the ones from the QIF file. Is there a way to reassign the downloads to a new name? In the example given, I would like to change the downloaded "Invesco..." to "AIM..."

Thanks,

Gene Cole

    Hi Gene,

Can you clarify for me which part of the transaction you are trying to amend?

You may wish to download the 'Find and Replace' extension, from within Extensions --> Manage Extensions. This allows you to amend certain aspects of a transaction and may be useful to you.

You can also highlight the relevant transactions from the register, right click, and select batch change.

I hope this is helpful, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I don’t think the batch change works on securities. I will download the extension you suggest. I will try to describe my specific problem now:

The first time I downloaded transactions from my Investment account, I was given a dialogue box to assign security names to the security that is in my account. For some reason, I was given a bunch of security names that I was unable to know what the security might be. For example, I was asked which security I wanted to use for “0630.” I had no clue, so I said “None of the Above.” After comparing the Moneydance transactions to my on-line account, I was able to determine what the right name was. I then had to manually edit every one of the securites that were “0630” to “T Rowe Price Cap Value.” In the future, will I get “0630” loaded into my transactions, or will I be able to adjust the table that tells Moneydance what 0630 corresponds to.

On a related note, I tried deleting security 0630. The system said it is still being used. I am unable to see where it is still being used. When I click on it, all I get is price history, not what transactions use this security. If I could find where it is used, would I then be able to delete it.

On a related note, how can I create a new security after the download starts. The only option for a security that isn’t already on the list is “None of the Above.” It then will create a security equal to the downloaded name. Is that the only option, or could I put in my own name for the security that might be shorter than the one that is downloaded?

Thanks in advance for your help,

The first time I downloaded transactions from my Investment account, I was given a dialogue box to assign security named “0630” to the security that is in my account. I guessed wrong regarding which security corresponded to this number. I picked “T Rowe Price Tax Exempt.” After comparing the Moneydance transactions to my on-line account, I was able to determine what the right name was “T Rowe Price Cap Apprec.” I then had to manually edit every one of the security transactions that used “T Row Price Tax Exempt” to “T Rowe Price Cap Value.” Today, I downloaded transactions from the same account, and had to manually make the same edits. This is very annoying that I will be stuck doing manually entries every time I download transactions for this account. How can I recover from this problem? There are no conversion tables available on any of the menus.

On a related note, I tried deleting security 0630. The system said it is still being used. I am unable to see where it is still being used. One more question. How can I create a new security after the download starts. The only option for a security that isn’t already on the list is “None of the Above.” It then will create a security equal to the downloaded name. Is that the only option, or could I put in my own name for the security that might be shorter than the one that is downloaded?
