They sent information to MD back in January as new confidentiality and service agreement required. Thus far, MD has not responded. This is a MD issue. Meanwhile, it appears we 'out of luck', at mercy of MD and Schwab.

David Greenetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-23T21:22:28Z2020-11-17T11:48:33ZSchwab transactions not downloading

I also spoke with Schwab. They said they "have no troubleshooting procedure" for Moneydance. Schwab Bank customers are doing manual data entry. Not good.

Moneydance needs to get on the phone with Schwab.

rsibrenttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-23T22:14:35Z2020-11-17T11:48:33ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Just a throw in thought. I take it that the direct connect protocol requires the third party to identify themselves?

I would have thought (probably incorrectly it seems), that if a proper id/password is provided, and direct connect has been enabled, that it should "just work".

For example, in many cases, we are told "tell XBANK that you are using quicken", and then they will just follow the right protocols to allow everything to work.

This sounds quite different.

Anyone with knowledge about direct connect and third parties?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-23T22:23:10Z2020-11-17T11:48:32ZSchwab transactions not downloading

In continued thought - I thought that was the point of direct connect. Private.

If MD has to say "hey, we are Moneydance, not Quicken" isn't that at least a slight invasion of privacy? Now you know what ledger package I'm using.

So, I'm very serious here in requesting a response. How much are we revealing as we use data software? Sure, Web Connect is worse, but maybe direct connect isn't as private as I thought?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-23T22:56:47Z2020-11-17T11:48:32ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Ok, here are my two dialogues with Schwab, but, tl/dr - I'm wondering if Schwab has discontinued direct connect.

10/22 - pm - Schwab, talked to Alex. I got the standard script others are mentioning, that "only Quicken, TurboTax and HRBlock have signed something sent in January 2020 to allow them to continue to access Schwab data." I did get a commitment for someone to call me today.

10/23 - 4:30pm MDT US - Nathan called me (just as I was about to give up and call Schwab - that felt eerie) - he couldn't provide much info, as he was a "supervisor/facilitator/advocate".. and said so. He listened to my concerns, and as a 30 year I/T person, he indeed said - "You know tons more about this than me - but I'm going to link you to third level I/T support." He also said I'd probably get a call on Monday, probably afternoon.

I expressed the "how does Schwab even know which third party is connecting on the direct connect protocol (that I presented here in my previous message)". Of course he had no answer, but expressed his own hope that I'd get a proper answer on Monday.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-23T23:43:37Z2020-11-17T11:48:32ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Come on Infinite Kind! Schwab Bank is one that MANY of your customers use, with a major, national presence. I have been a MD user since my first purchase in 2014. Today I thought, it's been a long time since I paid for MD and certainly got value from the product. So I RE-PURCHASED at full price of $49. Only to find that this product doesn't work with my bank! After all the issues with Citibank credit cards, not this. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP.

donnatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-25T23:03:34Z2020-11-17T11:48:32ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Hi All,

I've checked everywhere and have no messages from anyone at Schwab to indicate that any change was planned. I have however applied to their developer program and begun to gather data on how we can get a connection back up using their new system.

I'm sorry you've had to suffer through the Citibank problems and now this. At least with Citibank they contacted us and we worked closely with them to get the new system working, even if there were some bumps in that road.

I am confident that we'll come out of this with a better system and from now on we should at least be notified of any planned changes.

dtd, with Direct Connect from Moneydance there are no third parties - it's just moneydance on your computer connecting directly to the financial institution's servers. As far as I know that's how direct connect works in other apps too. Other apps have started to use aggregation services such as Yodlee which are third parties that connect to banks and combine account and transaction data on their servers that are then downloaded into desktop or web-based software. I'm opposed to that sort of system because it is not secure in many cases and has a serious lack of privacy in all cases.

Thanks,
Sean

Sean

Sean Reillytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-28T01:18:52Z2020-11-17T11:48:30ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Finally had my own Schwab conversation... the first person (Rob) was into trying to give me the standard line (the word "Moneydance" was mentioned 3-4 times) that "Moneydance" had to get their act together and sign up. Sigh.

Once I informed him of my actual issues, he did get quiet, said "this isn't part of my world" a couple of times, but politely passed me on to his supervisor, insisting - hey, he's willing to help, but wants to make sure you understand you are not getting to anyone who made these decisions you are complaining about.

I then talked to Derek, and to keep this from getting tl/dr, Derek and I reached the following concensus as to my issues.

1) Schwab was absolutely in the wrong not to inform their clients of this change away from Direct Connect, some clients having using this for 10-20 years. And boom. With no prior information.

2) Schwab did not bother to connect to everyone that their clients used. Had they done #1, it would have been smoother. But to blithely say "hey, your aggregator needs to sign up and fix things" (after the Oct 16 fact) was also egregious.

3) Schwab has not turned off Direct Connect (got that from Rob). They've just turned off anyone not approved. I made a formal request (not from me, but from all clients) that they should issue a letter of apology for lack of information, turn OFX back on to everyone, and to announce an in the future shutdown date.

4) I requested that OFX and/or QIF be a manual download option. As there will be software that does not comply and sign up, something other than CSV should be a download option. I mentioned Microsoft Money as an example.

Derek was kind and listened, and we both created the four comments together. He said he would be my advocate and would push this into areas I could not reach. (Nice customer service type response, we will see). He said he'd get back to me.

I said "I suspect this may go into a black hole. Can you get back to me within seven days?" He said yes (we will see).

So, if anyone wants a template, I think the four points we created work well.

Given it all falls apart or nothing happens - I'll go with Sean - this will take time.

Bad Schwab. Bad bad bad.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-28T01:22:18Z2020-11-17T11:48:29ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Sean - to your specific question about downloads.

It appears a CSV download is all that is available. I asked both Rob and Derek to direct me to another source, and they both read from the same script: "you can download CSV".

I did so - wow - 4 years. But, I am not about to upload it into my moneydance Schwab investment accounts. I have no wish to make it useless, nor take the time to do backups, test, upload, blah blah blah. I've already spent too much time in the last week dealing with Schwab.

That said, I will be glad to privately send you my last 4 years of Schwab activity, and I won't redact it, as it will be a private send.

A downloaded CSV is by account, I have six accounts (IRA, Roth, Bank, and so on) so I'm offering to send you one. There would need to be a procedure to upload the CSV by account, as well as to work out the download transaction id.

Let me know.

I'm sure we'd both rather Schwab fix it... but I don't have much hope.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-10-28T01:58:15Z2020-11-17T11:48:29ZSchwab transactions not downloading

I just downloaded the CSV. Here's one that has a similar level of frustration (correctly, at Schwab). Like an earlier poster, I'm super-p'ed that Schwab did this without warning users in advance. There's even nothing in their website to troubleshoot this, so I view this as a product decision to screw us or, more specifically, MD (knowing a bit about how these decisions are made).
It seems they are counting on 95+% of affected users not getting past the "my app is crap" viewpoint and hoping the rest of us tire out and switch apps anyway.
I lodged a formal and lengthy complaint with Schwab, for what little that will matter.

However, I am also a little peeved at MD that they knew about this and also didn't warn us or fix this a long time ago. After the Chase fiasco (that also greatly affected me), I stuck with MD, but I'm not sure I will weather another storm like this.
