In the case of Schwab it is needed to use Moneydance 2021 Build 2010 as it has specific changes for Schwab in it.

In many cases installing a new version will just work, but it may not. If is does not you use the menu options to disconnect and reconnect to the service and thus pick up refreshed information from a Moneydance server regarding connection information.

It has been noted that this does not work on occasions for some unknown reason in which case there is a script that is available that removes the connection information from the data set directly, essentially resetting it.

These last two have been used with various online connections over the years when necessary.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-05T07:00:35Z2020-12-05T07:00:35ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Right. I knew it was Schwab and I just figured it would be about the same. After posting I saw it was online banking instead so I posted in Problems. That said, you answered one main question, a change in the way Schwab does stuff.

I have so few transactions in Fidelity I can probably manage manual for the recent history. I haven't checked Fidelity.com yet so maybe there are more transactions there than I think, afterall it's "that time of the year" so more is going to be rolling in shortly if it hasn't already. But it's 2300 and I had hoped to have my transactions finished by now. Some other day.....Thanks for picking up the slack from the otherwise busy IK staff.

jonhtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-05T10:39:39Z2020-12-05T10:39:39ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Schwab Brokerage transactions are downloading for me using version 2010.
I do not want to deal with 8 years of duplicates so I first need to research how to avoid or I won't be upgrading. As to getting a qif from Schwab, you are out of luck. They only let you export to CSV, so it is a doable, but you have to get a program to convert the CSV to GIF. The one I found has a couple of manual steps so it is extra work.

I’ve been importing the CSV from Schwab since this whole mess started (banking only). MD handles the CSV just fine but you must remove the header information (except column headers) and then map the fields before importing. (Schwab puts some comments at the top of the file. Not sure how MD would handle that. I haven’t tried it.)

MD will remember the field mapping after the first file so you only need to do that once. The CSV is just a text file, so you can open in Windows Notepad (or the Text app on the Mac), remove the extraneous text, and save. You also need to search your transactions on the web site before you export to filter them by date. Otherwise you get 18 months of transactions. It’s a little more work, but not bad once you do it a couple of times.

Thanks for the tip. Yes, I had to remove those first several lines before I converted to GIF, so what you do would save that conversion step. I am all for that.
I only had a few months worth of duplicates, but it still should be easy to delete the duplicates: (steps from memory so may need to tweak):
- make backup first - In the register, click "Unconfirmed" << this should show only unconfirmed downloaded transactions. - click the newest transaction you want to delete - hit "home" key to go to top (you should see the oldest transaction) - hit Shift-left mouse key on the oldest transaction - all the duplicate transaction should be now highlighted. - hit delete

okichatantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-05T22:45:43Z2020-12-05T22:45:43ZSchwab transactions not downloading

I just did the upgrade on several banking and brokerage accounts and they

Schwab stopped supporting Direct Connect online downloads on Oct 16. They informed no clients, nor many companies (like Moneydance)

Moneydance had to do some fast action (and yes, that does mean weeks) to get it working again. They released a preview version 2021(2010) that is supposed to fix the problem (and it does for me), but it is still a preview.

Older versions no longer work with Schwab, due to Schwab's decision.

Users with versions older than 2019/2020 will have to pay half price to upgrade to the newest (preview) version. No one is required to upgrade, but as with operating system changes, and other major changes (like this by Schwab), it is what it is.

I am using 2021(2012) at the moment on a Mac (I assume oc means pc?)

What version are you using? If older than 2021(2010), Schwab will not work for you anymore, at least for OFX direct connect.

Hope that helps.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-09T00:35:12Z2020-12-09T00:35:14ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Just a moment ago, I used 2021(2010) to download data from a checking account at Charles Schwab Bank, NA. It worked, except that it downloaded 2 years worth of data and created some cleanup work for me. Not sure why it decided to do that, but now I can clean it up in about 15 minutes.

This trend away from OFX is worrisome.

kennyluciustag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-09T00:50:32Z2020-12-09T00:50:32ZSchwab transactions not downloading

I'm a fellow user.

Financial software when using OFX relies on transaction IDs that are part of the specification to help identify and eliminate duplicates automatically.

There are arbitrary values assigned be the bank's servers. If these change, say for example due to a change on the servers, then identification of duplicates is not possible and the software will not reject the transaction and therefore display it as a new transaction as it has no idea what else to do with it.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-09T00:52:37Z2020-12-09T00:52:37ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Just a watch out - if Schwab downloaded 2 years worth of data, then somehow the identification codes that Moneydance store to keep that from happening have somehow changed.

If possible, keep the NEW downloads over the older data. Since this is a bank account (not an investment account) using the MERGE feature would be best.

Hope that helps.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-09T03:46:26Z2020-12-09T03:47:23ZSchwab transactions not downloading

Thanks for the advice, but the duplicate transactions merged with the other transactions automatically. Apparently there is nothing I can do to prevent it (the auto-merge is off). I can't imagine why it happens.

Schwab fills the memo field with a dupe of the description, and I have always deleted the duped text as I confirm each transaction. So when the two-year DL happens, all those blank fields get filled again. Understand--the DLed transaction does not appear as an unconfirmed duplicate transaction; instead the DLed memo overwrites the blank memo on 450 transactions. I can't select the unconfirmed transactions or look for duplicates, because there are none. It simply overwrites my blank memo fields.

I have taken to replacing the memo field with a dot so it won't be empty. That solves the unwanted field replacements, but I still have to go and check it to be sure.

kennyluciustag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-18T15:29:53Z2020-12-18T15:29:53ZSchwab transactions not downloading

I finally got around to updating and am now on 2021 (3030). Unfortunately for me this hasn't fixed Schwab. After reading comments here, first I tried just downloading because the new version fixed that for some. That failed.

Then I tried refreshing data and changing from Schwab, N.A. to Schwab & Co, inc. With my investment accounts, that got me to the selection screen that showed the correct account number, but I still can't download. Downloading transactions results in the same "uh oh, we've gotten some OFX with no headers: " as when the problem started in October. I've tried deleting the online data and recreating, but it still gives me errors.

With my checking account, if I use "& Co" it takes me to the account selection screen, but there's no available account to select. If I use the Schwab ending in "NA," it seems like I'm setting up the account, but after finishing setup, trying to download transactions takes me to the built-in browser.

MD was caught off guard like we were and the developers worked hard to quickly release a solution. While earlier versions of 2021 (~2010 or so) fixed the issue, the latest preview (3030) seems to have lost access to Schwab again. I'm as frustrated as you, but this one is on Schwab, not MD. Fidelity, on the other hand, might be an MD issue :-)

just a user, but I've had troubles logging in with multiple firms for multiple reasons (Schwab, Chase, Discover (of course), and so on.

One thing I've tried that has invariably provided more info, vs. just an error message, is to set up a clean test account. I don't create much, just enough, like ermpty Schwab accounts that I then set up online banking for - usually very carefully, since I have 1 bank account and 4 investment accounts.

Then I let er rip and diagnose if necessary. If it works, you'll probably get 18 months of data for your investment accounts, and some from the bank. You can then verify if the mapping is correct by comparing to your real account.

If it doesn't work, given the fact this is a test, you may (or may not) get more insight.

Oh, and downloading the data to a new account shouldn't be an issue as the MD dataset and Schwab play a tagging game to mark the download info.

I have no idea if this will help, but it's something I've tried when online banking didn't work, and has eventually solved my problem each time.

As a hopeful light, my Schwab accounts were downloading data from 12/18 last evening with version 3030.

Hope it does help.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-20T23:24:43Z2020-12-20T23:24:43ZSchwab transactions not downloading

@Ted, the errors message: "Error Description: java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through ofxp.infinitekind.com:80.
Means that the system MD setup to use the old OFX record access from Schwab in a more secure way is off line for some reason. Hopefully Sean will get it back on line soon. This should be a temporary issue. The longer term problem is changing the way to download from Schwab at all when the complete (i.e. force folks) the move to FDX access.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-21T01:03:03Z2020-12-21T01:03:03ZSchwab transactions not downloading

@sth/dtd, I think I've encountered another, unsurprising issue.
I've seen problems downloading OFX from certain countries before and reported it to MD in case it wasn't a country-specific issue. It's easy enough to remote in home to download and then finish the work on my laptop since sync still works fine.

Just wondering if you can access your account from the UAE to do anything at all online. I had heard in the past that many financial institutions blocked IP's from certain, if not all, overseas countries in order to prevent fraud. Obviously, if you can sign in to your Schwab account from your overseas location (ie: not on a VPN) then I am certainly wrong. But if you cannot access then that would lead me to believe they are simply blocking IP's that do not match their idea of where you might be.

If MD sets up a proxy so that info from a client goes to IK (a middleman) first then that would solve all sorts of issues with security concerns, but maybe raising other issues?

jonhtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-21T02:29:46Z2020-12-21T02:29:46ZSchwab transactions not downloading

@jonh, I can login to Schwab and my other financial institutions from here, but I can't download ofx and haven't been able to for some time from some countries. Some countries such as Australia work fine. I was just on Schwab (without a VPN) to reconcile the account since for some reason Schwab sends Div transactions for the money market funds for each account, but not buys or sells.

Tedtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-21T17:50:35Z2020-12-21T17:50:35ZSchwab transactions not downloading

@Ted, Logging on to Schwab and and downloading the OFX are completely different operations and the success (or failure of one) does not say anything about the other. In fact Schwab blocks all downloading of OFX except for a few privileged IP addresses.

MD has one of those addresses and Schwab downloading now is routed (tunneled) through that MD server. Sean has paid for that server, security certificate and set it up for specifically tunneling MD customers to Schwab for data. I believe the transmissions are end to end encrypted so your data is not exposed anywhere.

I have no idea what UAE blocks or does not block. But having a browser connection to Schwab is not a diagnostic. For awhile yesterday, I believe Sean's server was offline and no one could access Schwab OFX. I haven't checked today but it is probably back on line by now.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/487619832020-12-21T20:56:05Z2020-12-21T21:07:52ZSchwab transactions not downloading

@Ted, I'm having the same problems that you describe in your post 109 and previously posted about those problems with no reply.
